MSNBC: Walkers will be xrayed!..only Airport approved WheelChairs |
|
can be used, hand searches ...on International flights. I guess Granny or Granpop's walker could be carring a Chem/Bio or WMD of another type. I guess the Wheel Chair could have a hidden compartment where the handicapped person could manage to trigger a missile of GEL straight into the pilots cabin. BTW: How does one "x-ray" a metal walker? :eyes:
All shoes must be removed and placed on the conveyor to be screened. I guess the terrorists would be clever enough to think of hiding such a device in orthopedic or baby shoes or maybe a sandal or two could have a hidden trip wire in the buckle.
Unbelievable.....

I will now refuse to fly anywhere. I wish everyone would. Start a revolution. Just stop going anywhere. Bring down the airlines, bring down the tourism & economy, bring down the country. Isn't that what this regime wants anyway? We're prisoners in our own country.
I've never wanted to live on a remote island as much as right now.

the x-ray machine (or walk past an x-ray wall, like in Total Recall)?

Right as I read, "Total Recall," in your post, I kept hearing Gov. Gropennegger's voice. Well, duh, he was on Larry King Live in the background.

4. when in panic mode, do SOMETHING, ANYTHING, to make it look like |
|
you are on top of things.
alternatively, panic and look like complete fools, or . . .no, just look like complete fools.
and people wonder why I prefer driving to flying.

7. What about those nitroglycerin pills that some heart patients need to have |
|
on hand for an emergency? What about folks with colostomy bags from colon surgery?
It's just endless the stuff that could be thought of...but it would still seem that only a certain percentage of our travelers would be "suspect" given that the Government already has a "No Fly" list of passengers.
Subjecting all of us to "seize and search" seems very extreme since they already supposedly broke up the plot.

8. The Day of the Jackal... |

going back a few years, but didn't the assassin smuggle his rifle disguised as a camera tripod?
I'm not sure if they even used x-ray scanning back when Forsyth set that book. Walkers and wheelchairs kinda reminded me of that.

x-ray through metal, though. Maybe they have sensors that the MSNBC person confused with x-ray.

It's not the Xraying that's problematic. It's the interpretation.
Somebody needs to give Homeland Security a refresher course in the the EXTREME radio-opaqueness of metals.

20. the same way they x-ray metal canes |
|
They send it through the xray machine along with all the other carry-on stuff.
A few years ago, the Madison airport had wooden canes for people with mobility problems to use while walking through the metal detectors. Haven't seen them there - or anywhere else - for quite a while.

25. For lower-Z metals, it depends greatly on the spectrum used... |
|
with the right settings, you can X-ray a metal gun and see the internal parts. Metals are very opaque on medical X-rays only because the spectrum used in medical X-ray machines is chosen to highlight subtle differences in opacity in highly X-ray-transparent materials. Airport scanners are optimized for more opaque objects.
Metals with lower atomic numbers (aluminum, iron/steel) are much less opaque than high-Z metals like lead and gold.

12. I witnessed screeners in Seattle going off the deep |
|
end a couple of years ago when they pulled a frail, elderly, hunched over, wheelchair-bound woman who had to be 90 out of line, yanked off her shoes, made her get up and "stand" (with the help of two TSA employees), examined the chair from top to bottom, wanded her and patted her down.
Poor old lady looked terrified. Her daughter, who was a senior, too, kept asking over and over, "Why are you doing this to my mother?" It was disgusting.
Related this story to some neighborhood women, and one in all seriousness said, "Well she could have been a terrorist."
Security is one thing. Being smart about it is something else entirely.

14. They've always made me |
|
remove my orthopedic shoes and they xray my forearm crutch.
Some airports give you a wooden cane to use to walk through the metal detector. Others just give you an arm and support you through it.
You get screened more than normal. I think because they assume you are too feeble to put up a fuss.
I no longer fly commercial so fuck 'em.

I've been routinely pulled out of line since before 9/11...after...every time. All because i'm arab.
My sister, who not coincidentally also is arab, and I were travelling not too long ago. She had been in a serious accident and couldn't walk or even put any pressure on one leg (it had been totally reconstucted after being pulverized...by the Hey Kool-Aid! thing when it crashed through a wall...not really...but this is the internet so i'm gonna say it was the Hey Kool-Aid guy instead of a car).
We were wanded, patted down, our bags completely gone through, her wheelchair scanned, I had to help carry her through the x-ray machine and then we practically played twister to get her scanned...shoes removed, etc.
EVerything you mention.
What's new about any of it?
It's rare that I get passed right through airport security anymore without having to do all that crap and sometimes more.

24. My 19 month old son wears an Orthopedic helmet |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 02:56 AM by symbolman
they are designed to round out heads, since kids are all kept sleeping on their backs over fear of SIDS, they get flat spots on their skulls, whole new Industry in these corrective helmets..(make sure you give your newborns LOTS of belly time or it can happen to them)
So they tell me that they have to "take a swipe" on the outside of the helmet.. I asked them if there were any chemicals involved as that would possibly compromise the plastic of this 4000 dollar device, and that was NOT going to happen.
They said no, it was just a cotton cloth that they run through a machine.
But then that little TSA twerp reached for my little boy's head with that material I gave him such a LOOK that he backed up. It was a look of TOTAL DISGUST and he felt it deep in his soul. He was actually embarrassed and ashamed of what he was doing. I was a bit surprised because most of the time they're just underpaid pricks, and *I* always get hauled out of line and searched.. Long Hair you know, Instant "Hippie, Commie, Liberal, Pinko" stereotyping.
I felt such a raw feeling that it backed this guy up.
Look them in the eyes, show them themselves, send them pictures, it works.
I almost said, "You want an ANAL PRINT, take one from me, but keep your fucking hands OFF MY LITTLE BOY."
This is not my country anymore, this is not the country I fought for as a Sgt in the US Air Force.
This is where America USED TO BE.
