4. I have to fly from JFK to Moscow Tuesday

but it is non-stop. By dumb luck I could not get a British Air flight with a Heathrow stop over to the Moscow airport (SVO), so I ended up on the non-stop with Delta. Hopefully, it won't be a nightmare next week like it will be the next couple of days.

6. Its already such a major pain in the arse

that unless it is an extremely long trip, I don't fly. I don't live in a hub city. Therefore, by the time you calculate the time to drive to the airport, go through security, get on the plane, fly to a hub, wait for the next flight, land, get your bags, rent a car and then drive to your destination, its actually quicker for me to drive most destinations that are under 500 miles or so.

Its insane.

i have been denied water by busy flight attendants in times past, most frequent flyers know you have to bring your own hydration because FAs have other duties besides playing waitress

if they don't drop this policy, i suppose the effect on the airline industry will be fairly devastating

what business traveler will be willing to check a $4K laptop to take a $400 flight? not too many i don't think

that's unusual, many folks find that w.out liquids they get extremely dry flakey skin, they get sick, and it has happened that some people have even died

Passenger requests for full cans are always denied because they "might run out." Cost cutting, I guess. Which I can understand, becuase I'd sure be pissed if I were at the back of the plane and couldn't get what I wanted because they ran out.

they most certainly do NOT give you the can every time, quite often i have had them explain that catering did not supply sufficient cans for people to have whole cans of soda

i've been on flights where NO bottled water was loaded...at all...

i have experienced what you have experienced

i have been told "no," i've been told "wait" and then she yelled at me when i buzzed again after 20 minutes, i have been told they didn't supply enough cans or bottles to allow people to have an entire can

repeatedly asking for a refill, even politely, might cause a harassed FA to consider that you are harassing her

i honestly don't know what to do, i remember one frenzied FA who really did accuse me of harassing her -- when i asked, politely, for a cup of water twice in an hour, she may well have confused me w. other passengers making the same request and not getting and finally snapped but it was scary

and of course during turbulence there can be NO service whatsoever

i don't know what sites and mailing lists you use to search for flights, last minute deals, etc but i am not v. optimistic that such deals are going to materialize altho it's only human nature to do the searches for any hidden gems

what i'm instead guessing will happen is that airlines will use the excuse to cxl the least profitable routes as well as the most backed-up routes, apparently there are a good many cancellations to/from u.k. -- and it's already a problem trying to fly back to usa out of cdg (paris)

maybe if you avoid western europe altogether, i dunno, but you still have the fuel cost issues

if you do see an unusually good deal, i wouldn't mind a PM if the destination is not to u.k. or western europe, no way i'm fighting that mess

No, this won't be changing my routine at all. Flying for me is already so much of a pain in the ass, drive two hours to airport, stand in line two-three more hours for intrusive searching, stuck at another hub for a couple of hours in order to switch planes, etc. etc., that frankly I'm now driving anyplace in North America. Besides, you get to see the country close up that way.

When I go overseas for vacation, well I suppose I will have to take those cattle cars in the sky. But that isn't for a couple more years yet, and if things continue as they are, I just might go over by boat.

Long before 9-11, I hated flying. I haven't been on a plane in over 20 years (1984). If I ever have enough money to fly to Europe, I'll have to. I am supposed to fly from STL (St. Louis) to EWR (Newark) on Nov 8.

I just hope that all this shit blows over by then. I am horrible flyer and my bottle of whiskey and my portable DVD player are the only things that keep me sane in the air...addtionally the flight I am booked on is a non-stop 2.5 hour on one of those regional jets. I usually opt for flights that are a normal sized jet, but the price and the flight times on these tickets prompted me to bite the bullet...Im fucked.

I think these tight restrictions will prompt an expansion of private/corporate/chartered plane useage (at least for those people and companies who can afford it). That'll siphon off a segment that would otherwise be paying non-discounted or luxury rates (i.e., a more-profitable-than-average segment of the airline traveler market), so the big airlines are going to be left even further in the lurch.

I have a surprise business trip to Europe coming up, and I was wondering about perfume prices at the duty free shops. Now I'm wondering what I would do with perfume if I bought any. I suppose the same applies to liquor.

It's not that I fear terrorist attacks, as the odds are better that I'd get hit by a bus around town, but it's the hassle. In order to get to most places I'd want to go, which would be an approximate 2 hour flight, I'd have to go through 5 hours of airport hassles. Not worth it. Now, with the new stuff going on today, and four hour lines... it'd take me all day to fly on a 2 hour flight. Just not worth it. I'll drive where I need to go, or wait until I have enough money to buy into a charter flight if it's something I really want to do. I'm not a good crowd nor line person...

We're traveling Sunday thankfully not north. I will have to check the airline about taking what I deem essentials and since I never ever check in bags, I am truly pissed. That's something that has to be addressed, because it sounds like a lot of airlines will restrict ANY carry on luggage for a while. So, I'm thinking lots of ipods, cell phones, and computers, will be hitting the pawn shops soon at an airport near you. And if they lose your luggage.. it's worse.

I won't take my lap top if I have to check it in - can't afford to lose it. We normally call friends or family using the cell when we land. This is way too much trouble - flying isn't worth it anymore.
