28. key fob is English for keychain.
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 11:59 AM by meldroc
I suspect they're also prohibiting car keys with built in electronics, such as the switchblade-like key I have for my VW Jetta, which has buttons on it for keyless entry. If I was flying and the airport security goons confiscated my car key, it would cost close to $200 to replace it. No, you can't just have a key made at any hardware store, it must be recoded at the dealer, and yes, they'll charge you up the nose for it.

Since they're tightening security, why don't they just strip the passengers, cavity-search them, sedate them with thorazine and strap them to the seats with five-point restraints? That'll keep 'em safe...

Some crappy egg sandwhich thing for the first half and then some "turkey looking meat thing" on a bun for the second half. Thank god for Vodka. ;-)

20. WHAT airline food? meals are a thing of the past on many flights
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 11:52 AM by pitohui
and mostly inedible or dangerous to special dietary needs on the rest

i have flown from detroit to japan with only ONE drink service -- people need to take their own hydration because not all flight crews are equally concerned w. customer service and there are also times (turbulence) when it's impossible for the FA to bring you the water even if she has the best will in the world

this is a bad, unhealthy, and ultimately dangerous policy

12. theft of valuables will be huge
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 11:48 AM by pitohui
the airline is not legally responsible for theft of electronics such as digital cameras, laptops, jewelry, etc.

my airport has had many arrests for thefts, so much temptation w. so little risk of being caught is not really fair to a low paid employee, sooner or later people snap and they do steal

the airline will tell you they DON'T have to compensate you for loss of digital/electronics/jewelry, they tell you that you should have known better than to pack them

the motive for airlines will be not to respond to reports of such losses since they are not responsible and they don't need the bad publicity of repeated arrests of baggage handlers/searchers

unfortunately many a business trip is useless w.out the computer, many a vacation is useless w.out the camera -- many people's biggest hobby and travel related pleasure

I predict a boom in private jets, at least until terrorists start using corporate-jet-bombs.

11. So you're supposed to put those items in your checked bags
that can't have any locks anymore to be stolen by airline personnel? If you can't take a handbag, I guess you're supposed to carry your wallet which lends to all kinds of problems like being stolen, dropped, accidentally left somewhere. Geez, what brilliant mind thought this up?

14. Disabled folks
have effectively been prohibited from traveling if they can only use wheelchairs provided by the airlines. Those who most rely on wheelchairs to get around don't just happen to use one at the airport - they arrive at the airport seated in a wheelchair that is secured inside their van. Wonder of wonders they continue to have need of that same chair after they depart their plane. Andmany of these folk use motorized or specially fitted chairs - accomodations which are not available with airport chairs.

Handbags go through the x-ray screener... WTF? If you can't find the wmd in my Kate Spade bag with a x-ray, then I'm guessing it's not in there - hell, I can barely fit a lipstick case and checkbook in there. Since when did the "war on terror" become a war on fashion?
