It's mind boggling to me.. That's what I thought of in the wee hours, when this story first broke.. CNN-I at least covered it in a relatively calm way, but even they did not mention Bojinka..

It was in 1995 (I think)..not THAT long ago...surely someone has heard of that foiled plot..

1. We're repeating history because we didn't learn anything the first time
Do you ever get the feeling that people are ignoring facts and spending too much time on speculation? I guess the MSM's habit of rampant speculation has replaced actual discussion and analysis of what's happened in the past.

Keep posting. I'll keep recommending. Maybe others will take notice.

2. Why would they do that?
That would be like mentioning that a western power carved Iraq up into Iraq 80 years ago, and we have to live with the mess today. That would be historical context. We live second by second in our reality.

4. I recall Bojinka. But can't recall anyone in the media mentioning it so
far with this latest thing. I thought the same thing late last night, "Bojinka revisited."

OK, guy on CNN is just now mentioning Ramzi Yousef and the Bojinka plot (but not by name). Finally.

5. These days it's like eveything "happens" for the very first time
There is no historical context ..And with the substandard education that so many people have, it's easy to scare the shit out of a lot of people in a big hurry..

6. Naww. Nobody ever imagined anyone would crash an airliner into a building.

9. Yep, they only imagine "traditional hijackings"
The problem with "safety" is this..

If you are doing your job in keeping people safe, it's not even noticed...no pats on the back for the cops who prevented crime...no glory for the president who quietly and competently set plans in motion to foil plots an did it behine the scenes..

Here's something to think about though..

MANY times the "heroic fireman" who discovers a fire, has eventually been found to be the one who started it..

It's a Munchhausen-ian thing...

12. Clinton Administration didn't make this public for 2 years afterwards
But of course Bush needs anything he can get to get Iraq war - middle east, even Liberman kiss off the front pages. However I'm quite sure there will ne no further comments becuse there is an ongoing investigation, right up and thru the november elections...

13. Clinton should make an appearance to remind people that
a similar plot was FOILED by HIS administration, and the warnings passed on to Bush, who promptly IGNORED terror....

and that it was just part of the job, and not worthy of scaring people when the plot was foiled..

stopping these things as a routine does more to prevent them, than wringing hands in public and getting everyone scared..Terraists WANT us scared...
