County Commission candidate who is a Republican and stupid.

But I repeat myself.

I attended a forum this evening in which five of the seven Republican candidates and the sole Democrat candidate for my County Commission district introduced themselves in a five minute speech and then fielded questions. Before the event, one of the Republican candidates approached me to chat. Surprising since I was sporting a sticker on my jacket for the Democrat.

Anyway, he mentioned he was a political scientist and said something about being glad there were so many people running and that both parties were represented. He said that sometimes the Republicans were their own worst enemy when they controlled too much of the government. He liked to see an open marketplace of ideas.

I agreed and said, "Yes, I may be a Democrat but if the Democrats controlled all three branches of government as strongly as the current Republicans do I would have some serious concerns."

He responded:

"Oh yes. That would be Communism."

My eyes just about popped out of my head.

My response:

"So if Democrats controlling all three branches is Communism, then Republicans controlling all three branches must be Fascism." I turned on my heels and then over my shoulder couldn't resist..."Oh, and as a political scientist you should know that communism refers to economics, not politics."

against local candidates is the LTTE page of your local paper.

Here in Ohio, OPLIN (the ohio library system website) keeps an online achive of most local papers going back 10 years or more. I've found that by searching for their LTTE's, you can create your own LTTE to assasinate them with their own words.
