Will our Google searches eventually be public? |
|
Yesterday's "USA Today" had an interesting article about AOL customers' searches that were accidentally made public, online. People were not identified by name, but many searches could have revealed identities, because of the content of the searches.
Didn't the government force Google to hand over search logs a while back? If so, that's scary. If not, I anticipate that BushCo will attempt to get those logs until they have every last search in their possession.
I find this really troubling. I mean...I've searched old boyfriends names. I sure don't want most of them know that. I've also Googled many family members--and many of my search topics could easily give away my identity. This could be a real invasion of privacy.
I've Googled loads of very personal searches (and no, nothing porn related), but stuff that I would never want revealed.
Can you imagine your Google searches being made public?
Will it ever happen? :scared:

Saying "well we're really careful" doesn't quite cut it. It should point out how suspcious we should be of datamining by google, and gmail, because google could have an accident too, or a government could require the information to be turned over and we would never know. And in general, the practice makes it more likely that more people will do it.
