The Hartford Courant drops all pretense of fairness and objectivity
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 07:13 AM by Atman
(ON EDIT; Subject line changed to better reflect crap I found on subsequent pages. Post #2 is actually much more revealing. Perhaps you should read it first.)

Front page, HUGE letters, above the fold...

THE MARK OF AL QAIDA

Then, on the front page of the state section...

Terror Threat Revs Up Joe

Yup. I'll bet it did. Now, please read post #2.

1. Yep, those damn liberals should have known ...
voting for Lamont and stopping Joe was the green light to incite terror through the world.

2. It gets worse...these are the major headlines on the EDITORIAL pages...
Al-Qaida Is The Main Threat

Lamont's Shallow Anti-War Appeal Wont Hold Up

Moore, Radical Left Wing Take Control of The Party

and perhaps the most curious headline, placed atop Liberal E.J. Dionne's column...

Bush Gang Sees Victory for Defeatist Left

But in case you think I'm just getting overly excited, try this on for size, a pull-quote (those little excerpts of stories some newspapers place within the main text to draw reader interest -- which, for the record, The Hartford Courant does not generally do on regular news stories) which appeared on the front page of the state section. Ready? Sitting down?

More evil or as evil as Nazism and probably more dangerous than the Soviet Communists we fought during the cold war.

Well, at least there is no secret about whom the Courant is backing, eh? But then, maybe all the headlines were just a pre-emptive strike against all the hate mail their righty extremist readers (hey, if they can smear, so can I) will send them when they see Englehart's cartoon today right above all this mess...

5. I did. But Hartford is a one-paper town.
Even the "alternative" rag, The Advocate (no, not the gay one) is published by Tribune Media Services, the same company who publishes the daily. I got so fed up with The Courant's bias slant that I cancelled my subscription. Now, on the days I don't read it for free at the diner, I'll drop a couple quarters in the curb box. Then I burn the old papers with a smile on my face!
