So how are our rapture ready friends doing this week? |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 09:34 AM by Mountainman
If the conflicts subside what then? Do they go looking for a new job? Do they ask for their possessions back? Do they think that they weren't really rapture ready?

2. The Rapture is the final excuse for fucking up the world |
|
As Republicans cannot accept responsibility for anything, it makes complete sense. When we self-destruct it CAN'T be because of failed policies...it's all part of God's Divine Plan. :puke:

4. It's the lie the powerful use to get the weak to sit and take it |
|
'All the destruction, all the exploitation, all the abuse... hey, don't fret, your kids won't have to deal with the mess we're making; you're the chosen, you will be outta here!'
Why don't people who believe so much also beleive warnings about false prophets? Can't wrap my head around that one.

3. One is so depressed she can barely move. |
|
Saw her in the store and she is just a notch above catatonic. Or, maybe she just upped her self-medicating since she didn't get the trip she was expecting.
Her teen-aged son has been getting totally blotto much earlier in the day than usual.
Some of the others seemed cranky and embarrassed when they finally came outta their houses a day ago
So odd, they take all the hocus-pocus stuff SO seriously but always forget the warnings about false prophets.

6. Great point about the false prophets havocmom |
|
I used to be a pretty serious fundie/holly roller/endtimer in my stupider youth, and I rank my religious insanity as a waste of time right up there with my bouts with addiction, but I always thought that when the endtimes drew near we might know it but NOT fall into the madness that the RR people have. I always figured it would pretty easy to figure out who the false prophets were and even the antichrist because the BOOK told you the freaking signs to look for! It shouldn't be rocket science even to blind christians (and I DON'T think all are blind. I want to make that clear)that the people who are doing things in direct contradiction to JESUS' teachings were probably the fuckin bad guy. What I got out of my days in those churches was that if the shit did hit the fan in my lifetime that I should look inward, be true to myself and MY understanding of THE WORD and my personal relationship with the creator. Not go off all half cocked following the first preacher with the armageddon timeline figured out.

16. And interesting point about addiction. Addictive personalities are at risk |
|
of falling for a lot of odd illusions, false logic, false prophets. And there are a lot of addictive personalities out there whether they use chemicals/ideologies to self medicate. Seems a bunch of us don't even know ourselves well enough to admit to the tendency to be addictive.
I love the interesting lessons in the Bible, just as I love the lessons from other sources. And it is good to recall that nothing is 100% accurate. Any book was written, edited, translated by humans.
When I need to hear/see the godhead, the sacred, I just open my senses, heart, AND MIND. That has made me a pantheist.
Jesus, he was a good teacher. A Master to my thinking. There are many others. There will be more.
Another thing that bothers me... That Gift of Free Will issue. Seems ignoring that and not using the gift as well as on can is a serious blasphemy. Just as it is possible any creator/god would be disappointed with us for destroying the creation, seems to me ignoring the gifts would cause distress.
Oh, and then there is the teaching about praying quietly and in private. That one gets ignored by a certain crowd too. ;)
shadowknows69, I always enjoy our chats. Don't always agree with ya, but always enjoy the read and the doors in my head you help open.

Are out of their f'ing minds.
Are there any of the Rapture Ready on DU? I've always wondered if people who believe that nonsense ever are liberals? According to that site, all good christians should "vote republican and vote often."
Back in the day, we used to call groups like the christian far right cults.
I find it completely unbelievable that in this day and age, there are so many morons out there who believe this crap. Brainwashing is what it is and the brainwashed will do anything to protect their beliefs.
Someone, please tell me the difference between these people and the people who use terrorism to try to bring about the world their god tells them should exist. There isn't one.

that we are closer to the Rapture and the Lord's coming now than anytime before? I have heard that in church decades ago. It's like saying that we are closer to the sun going nova than anytime before.

If this little world to-night Suddenly should fall through space
In a hissing, headlong flight, Shrivelling from off its face
In an instant every trace Of all the little crawling things; ---
Ants, philosophers, and lice, Cattle, cockroaches, and kings,
Beggars, millionaires, and mice, Men and maggots all as one
As it falls into the Sun, --- Who shall say that at the same
Instant from a planet far A child may watch us and exclaim, "See the pretty shooting star!" Oliver Herford

...in which rapturians wake up to an abandoned neighborhood; no electricity, no phone service, etc ..only to find out that the raputure happened during the night- while they were asleep.
