Here's A Weird Scenario....Gore/Clinton? |
|
I'm not sure they get along, or whether Hillary's ego would allow it, but would this be a ticket the party could get behind en masse?
So, Gore defeats Hillary in the primaries, but she polls strongly, and he asks her to join him on the ticket. Hillary realizes that if Gore wins, her chances of ever reaching higher office than the Senate diminishes, unless she takes the runner-up VP role.
This gives her a chance to accomplish a bunch of stuff over the next 8 years, and puts her first in line to run as the former VP in 2016.
I'm not saying it's likely, or even feasible, but was wondering about other opinions. Clintons & Gores together again for another 8 years.

Bill. His presence might overshadow Gore's influence. Might bother Gore.

16. Edwards would be a plus to any Democratic Ticket ... |
|
What was Gore thinking when he picked Lieberman as his VP choice, when there were so many other well-qualified choices available to him. Just a terrible decision. Edwards would have been a real plus to the ticket.
Go back at look at the VP debate with Cheney, Lieberman did not take the fight to him on numerous subjects that Cheney was weak on -- I wonder if they were as chummy back then as they are today?

17. He was probably listening to his DLC campaign handlers |
|
telling him that Lieberman was a sound DLC candidate, but one who had put enough distance between himself and Clinton to be viable.
Big mistake. OTOH, Edwards was too unknown in 2000.

5. hillary as a veep candidate would be a major liability for gore |
|
gore was wise to chose someone more conservative than himself in 2000, although lieberman turned out to be a terrible choice.
the veep candidate usually is not particularly relevant to the president's election chances (other than usually delivering the veep's home state), unless a blunder is made. i think hillary as a veep candidate would be a blunder. it would light up the republicans like crazy, and new york is already in the bag.

that ticket or just for Hillary. She is nowhere near the bogeyman people here would have you believe. A lot of middle America truly likes and respects her...I believe Gore would be a shoe-in no matter who he picked as VP unless it were Lieberman.

13. Why would Gore want to enter a race, only to saddle himself with |
|
Hillary and all the baggage and venom --- not to mention the DLC --- she carries with her?
He'd have to have a real deathwish to do something that stupid.
Hillary is UNELECTABLE. And that means in ANY postion on our ticket. She will rally the RNC base like no one could; she will bring all the Bill/Monica B.S. back into the limelight; she will have DLC advisors/money/corporate baggage attached to her. Nothing but HER BAGGAGE will be talked about for the entire campaign.
I hope, if Al decides to run, he stays like a thousand miles away from Billary.

15. So, What Choices Work? |
|
Feingold? Boxer? Edwards?
Has to clearly be someone without a big ego, without any significant liabilities that the repubs could go after. Probably want someone even tempered, yet strong, and not willing to take the crap the repubs will dish out.

Conservative dem, acceptable to the DLC, former Ambassador to the UN, lots of international experience. That might be the balance that Gore was looking for in Lieberman, but with someone who has not been a Bushco kissass.
My personal choice would be Edwards, but the party might find someone like Richardson more acceptable. Feingold would be fine, but too easily painted as far-left -- I think that would be an asset, but unfortunately it seems most dems do not.
