The Nation goes after Dobbs
Calling his guests wingnuts, and claiming that when a liberal is allowed on, Dobbs runs over him with a bulldozer. I haven't watched him in a while, but I always thought he treated guests with respect. Anyway, take a gander.

"You might expect that sort of McCarthyesque description from Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh or some other famously right-wing provocateur on Fox or talk-radio. But Lou Dobbs, on CNN? These days, the network once pilloried by conservatives as a leading voice of the "liberal media" is offering an expansive platform to the nation's leading spokesman for anti-immigration hardliners. Night after night, under the rousing headline "Broken Borders," the distinguished-looking 61-year-old instructs his growing audience that illegal immigrants import deadly diseases, rampant crime and international terrorism; they live off welfare, destroy public schools and burden hospitals; what's more, most haven't even learned to speak English. Add that they're foot soldiers sent by the Mexican government to "reconquer" the Southwest, and by the end of the hour, we have seen the enemy--and he's a Spanish-speaking immigrant. Despite the grave threat, Dobbs declares, our lawmakers are doing nothing about it. Thus Dobbs branded the recent bipartisan Senate reform bill, designed to allow more immigrants to work here legally while also securing the borders, "The Amnesty Agenda"--a "pathetic sham" that would make a "mockery" of the American people."

A real LONG article

1. I watch Dobbs every now and then . . .
And always thought of him as slightly right-of-center (the real center, not the wingnut center), pro-business, but generally a professional moderate.

But he do seem to have a bee in his bonnet over illegal immigration.

Which raises the question -- is this an issue that's going to explode in anyone's face (Dem or 'Lican) come November? I.e., is there lots more explosive force in this issue (a quart of perchlorite, f'rinstance) than strategists are thinking now?

4. Yeah, he goes too far on immigration
Let's face it, a lot of his good bidness buddies would go belly up without illegals.

2. Good. The Southern Poverty Law Center has gone after him
for glorifying the Minutemen and ignoring their root racism.

3. good for Lou Dobbs. I like him,
he recently on air supported "reopening 911" and conducting a new independent investigation into all the facts surrounding the attacks of Sept.11 2001. Bravo Lou !!

When we pin those 3,000 murders on the special ops we will once again clean house arrest, indict, convict and sentence these neocon murderers. Lou Dobbs 911 position here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahv3VdknyZ4

And I love Broken Borders.

5. Although Lou is "hung up on Immigration" , I find that
in other IMPORTANT areas, he's coming around to our way of thinking!! I watch him everyday, JUST to hear him attack the *mis administration !! It does my heart good to hear him speak about things other "talking heads" are afraid to even speak of!! Like "election fraud" the real truth about 9/11, and his AMAZEMENT at the ineptitude of this administration!! If you can get past his immigration rants, it's worth listening to what he has to say lately!! DC

6. I may disagree with him a lot
But this attack by the Nation seems unfair to me. Yeah, he's nuts on immigration. Then again, he was DEAD RIGHT about Enron and Arthur Andersen, virtually the only person who stood up for AA. An entire company collapsed because of a few crooks in the Houston office; Chicago lost 20,000 jobs, only a handful of whom even knew they HAD a Houston office, much less what it was up to.

I'd rather have Lou around, wrong though he may be from time to time, because at least he stands up for what he believes, not what a bunch of political insiders tell him it is cool to believe, like most of the rest of the people on CNN, MSNBC and so on.

10. Dobbs is sort of whacko. A true Independent. Great work on E-voting.
If you know a man by his deeds, then there is more good in Lou Dobbs than there is in most TV anchors.

His recent gallop results were interesting. He is not well know, but those who know him like him. He only has about 30-40 % approval among Dems and GOP which means that those who like him consider themselves independents. That means his base is the political base that the two parties duke it out for at election time.

11. this is why I don't read the Nation.
They have a habit of pilloring those who don't toe their line--and more visciously the closer they are to their ideals.

The Dems are crazy if they don't support closing/regulating the borders. They are basically tossing the middle class over in favor of some ideal of "racial tolerance". It's not about racial tolerance or acceptance, but about the basic economics of preserving a middle class.

Dobbs has supported reinvestigation of 911 and criticized black box voting. Where else have you seen this on the corporate media besides Olberman?

14. I stopped reading the Nation
when they attacked Wes Clark on the full cover of their rag. I don't consider Dobbs a racist because he wants to stop illegals from entering the country either. There's not enough jobs. People like to say the immigrants do the work Americans won't well that may be true but they are also taking construction jobs here. Our county is one of the highest in unemployment and many are taking good jobs for less pay. Some live 4 families to a home. Do Americans want to do that? We may have to change our life styles if things don't get better soon.

13. He's absolutely right on about securing the borders.
The day of 9/11 the borders should have been closed and the security of the border should have been the first thing the government worked on--not the condition of the shopping malls.
