1. Ex-cellent! I have no plans to travel ...
but if you think I'm gonna hand my G4 over to baggage claims, you're out of your tits.

5. That's why I posted...
I have a 17 hour non-stop flight coming up. No magazines, no iPod, no laptop. What the fuck is someone supposed to do for 17 hours on a plane, hunt for snakes????

4. After having my computer for 10 yrs, I know how you'd miss your stuff
on a flight, but you do realize lots of people flew BEFORE there were cell phones, laptops, MP3's etc! I think the passtime was TAKE A BOOK!

Geesh folks! I wouldn't want to put my electronic stuff in baggage either, but you really can survive without it for a few hours.

11. It isn't so much as entertaining oneself ...
... but the necessity of having your laptop with you for business reasons.

My daughter needs her laptop on her trips around the country - as it contains proprietary software that she demonstrates to potential clients.

She has trips to Texas and Florida coming up soon, and was in a little panic over the thought of having to check her bag with the laptop in it --- and risking having the bag not arrive or having the (brand new) laptop stolen. (Certainly not unheard of!)

14. I do understand that. I don't know if it's possible to still buy added
special ins. on something like that or not. I know you used to be able to. At least they're only banning them on flights FROM the UK to the US.

18. Agreed, definitely,
except the UK airports won't let passengers take books on board now, so I'm going to slowly go mad on my flight out of the UK next week. Quite how people are expected to make bombs out of reading material is a mystery to me.

19. BOOKS????? WHY?
Other than throwing it at someone, or reading it outloud and disturbing everyone, how could a book be a problem? Are you really SURE they are forbidding BOOKS?

21. She's sure.....
It's been on the news over here several times today. I hope they'll lift that stupid ban in a day or two.

23. Yep, absolutely sure.
It's driving me nuts. I phoned the airport again this morning and still got "no" for an answer. Then I phoned KLM, who we're flying with, and was told that they have to follow UK government restrictions...meaning no books.

Beyond stupid, isn't it?

15. WE need to bring this to the attention of our citizens...
IMO, this is a complete exercise in CONTROL. Why can't someone bring a chapstick on a plane yet only 10% of our check-in luggage across the country is scanned for bombing materials? That means all of these long lines and "security" checks really mean NOTHING, eh? Who cares if I have a lipstick tube with me if the belly of my plane is FULL OF EXPLOSIVES? Think about it.

22. Damn I hate election time, it gets all the loonys around the
world fired up including our own president dearest! SARCASM

Osama is busy making tapes, others making threats, some making bombs, yup, it is election time.

The only thing that can save us would be the Democrats running the show for awhile.
