Poll: Biden is Most Trusted Democrat on Foreign Policy
Poll: Biden is Most Trusted Democrat on Foreign Policy

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Journal has released a poll which said U.S. Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE), ranking member on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is the most trusted Democrat on foreign policy issues.

The poll, which samples key decision makers in Washington, DC, asked respondents: Who in your party do you trust most on foreign policy? Poll respondents overwhelmingly favored Senator Joe Biden, followed by former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and U.S. Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT).

Poll respondents said Biden “is level-headed and avoids rhetoric,” and “understands politics on a global field, is not an ideologue, and is one of the few Democrats who can articulate a contrasting position from the administration. Experience counts in foreign policy, and he has more than W. and Condi combined.” “Not only is he knowledgeable, but I learn something whenever I listen to him,” one of the poll participants added.

1. And you say this article appeared on Biden's website? Coinky-dink City!
I've heard Biden talk intelligently and convincingly on foreign policy--often right off the cuff. What Mr Clinton was to economic and fiscal policy, Biden has the brains to be for foriegn policy. He'd be a heck of a Secretary of State, but probably unimaginative. Frankly, after 8 years of Bush/Cheney-driven chaos and pointless wars and neglected crises, the country will probably be in need of some old fashioned, unimaginative fence building.

But he'll serve his country best in an ancillary position. He strikes me as a man of insight rather than vision.

13. Biden is full of hot air...and himself. Loves the sound of his voice.
And during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings he exposed the depth of his intellectual and strategic shortcomings. Biden's a gasbag.

19. Clinton was marginal on economic issues
Unless you agreed with NAFTA and agreed with granting China most favored nation trading status and agreed with free trade with weak protections for workers and the environment both at home and abroad.

6. I'd like to have a good 08 candidate who isn't a senator
with an easy record to distort. There is a reason senators haven't been elected president in 40 years. I'd also like a candidate from a flippable red state as we need all of the electoral help we can get. Even with Diebold, if Kerry was from Ohio or Florida, he'd be sitting in the oval office right now IMO. I know this is a bit ot...

15. I think Biden would be a great Secretary of State
I'm a bit concerned about his economic views, given his support of travesties like the bankruptcy bill.

9. I don't follow the NATIONAL JOURNAL, but I give credit where it's due
to Biden on foreign policy.

He's no slouch at it.

While Dick Lugar (Chairman, Senatoe Foreign Relations Committee) was pussyfooting with John Bolton, Biden was letting Bolton have it right between the eyes.

I don't know if I'd put him first on my personal list, but I'd rank Biden pretty high on competence, knowledge, and drive, and wouldn't mind having him advising a U.S. president on our relations with other cultures and countries.
