"Jihad Begins in the Mosque"
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 07:24 PM by The Cleaner
Tonight on the news they alluded to the theory that ordinary Muslims become radicalized inside the Mosques, whose Imams spew hatred and incite violence (not all Mosques of course). Is this true? And if so, what can we do to reform the Mosques so that no more Muslims become radicalized?

1. And if we figure that one out...
...we can apply it to Christian churches and get rid of all the extremist whackos there too.

2. "WE" can't do anything.
Any influence or pressure has to come from within the Muslim community.

6. No, seriously people -
If it is true that some Imams in the West and Middle East are preaching hatred and violence against the West, doesn't it makes sense to try and figure out a way to convince them to give up their rhetoric?

Free speech yes, but when it comes to inciting violence and terror, should we allow that? I say no, because it is a public danger.

Can we please have an intelligent thought provoking conversation.

7. actually, you've missed the point completely.
#1: free speech. I can say whatever the fuck I want and I can believe the moon is made of green cheese if I want to.
#2: The radical Muslims say WE are evil, the Fundies say everyone but THEM is evil. NEITHER are right.
#3: MAYBE if we stopped being the world's assholes, they would stop trying to kill us...?

8. Although I know it only takes ONE radical
to kill a few, I give credit to the Muslim community for helping Law Enforcement. Even the plot in the UK was stopped with the help of the Muslim Community so I do not think is only a bad thing.

Look at the Christian Right, responsible for bombing abortion clinics, killing Doctors are teaching hatred in their own "Madrases".

9. Locking.
Please see the GD guidelines for posting on the current conflict in Israel and Lebanon.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=1809690&mesg_id=1809690

Specifically this:

1. ORIGINAL POSTS MUST BE ABOUT A CURRENT EVENT, AND CONTAIN NON-INFLAMMATORY, SUBSTANTIAL CONTENT
If you wish to start a thread in the General Discussion forum about the Middle East situation involving Lebanon, Israel, and the surrounding countries, it must be based on a current news story. The moderators may lock threads which are started with substance-free posts (for example, nothing but a link), or threads started with posts which contain inflammatory rhetoric.

Thanks.
