CARO, Mich. (AP) -- Three men were arrested Friday on charges of supporting terrorism after they purchased 80 prepaid mobile phones from a Wal-Mart store, police said.

The men, all from the Dallas area, were being held on charges of soliciting or providing material support for terrorism and obtaining information of a vulnerable target for the purposes of terrorism, police Sgt. Dale Stevenson said. They told investigators they planned to resell the phones to a wholesaler for profit, police said.

Stevenson declined to elaborate on how the case relates to terrorism. Telephone messages were left Friday with the Tuscola County prosecutor's office and the FBI, which assisted with the investigation.

The men, ages 18, 22 and 23, were being held in Tuscola County Jail and scheduled to be arraigned Saturday.

5. I heard this earlier on a TV news broadcast. How can they
possibly make a terrorism chage stick?

Hell, I sell stuff on Ebay, and if I find a great deal at a local store and know I can make a buck reselling the stuff, I buy a bunch! Now, I never bought prrepaid cells before, but so what? I guess I can understand them being a bit suspicious, but without any other evidence, what the hell is wrong with buying a bunch of cell phones?

These people are getting paranoid!!!!!

6. My guess is...
... huge pressure from the Justice Department to make "terrorist" arrests. Just get it in the news, NOW, don't worry about whether or not the charges stick.

7. Now it's illegal to buy phones?
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 11:04 PM by BattyDem
During the last couple of weeks of American Idol (yes, I love that show - we all need some down time ... SOUL PATROL!), many "Soul Patrollers" (Taylor Hicks fans) were buying multiple prepaid cellular phones and shipping them to other SPers who couldn't afford them so they could vote via text messaging, which is much better because the phone lines are always jammed.

Why am I telling you this? Simply to point out that there are legitimate reasons to buy multiple prepaid phones - the purchase doesn't automatically mean you're a terrorist!

I don't know what these guys did, but if the purchase is the only "real" evidence they have, then I smell BS.

8. Bollocks!!
People with Arabic names selling cell phones is not terrorism!!!

What if a person with an Arabic name sold shampoo? Would that now be terrorism, too?
