What an incredible coincidence. "United 93" due out 9/5/06 on DVD |
|
Man, what a bit of dumb luck that. The DVD of this movie coming out 6 days before the fifth year anniversary of September 11th. Surely nobody would try to exploit that solemn occasion for financial gain. http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_9534.html

a guilty pleasure for me as an excuse to see something that in it's innocence was honestly great, with wonderful characters, stories and morals
I miss Jim Henson.

2. How about a 9/11 memorial bonfire? |

Where the whole lot of that utter dreck is burned in the memory of those poor unfortunate souls.

Good ideal... across the country bonfires of videos and books and then place a monument in the place of the fire in honor of those that died...

Saw it and it was as good as his "bloody sunday" about Belfast. More power to him if it can come out at a time of heightened interest. By the way, the producers of the Movie donated 10% of all the gross the first weekend to the UNITED 93 Memorial (and will do the same for the DVD sales), they also had the cooperation of all the families and used most of the real people for the roles on the ground. I think you miss the point if you are questioning the motives on this film.

6. oh, i don't think anyone questions their motives... |

i think we are pretty damn sure what their motives are...little pieces of green paper with pictures on them. if you think different, you are either naive or deluded.

Great movie, you call it propoganda but under that theory, no one could ever produce an historical Docudrama, my allegiance here goes to FILM, and its a great film, and it showed the one thing we do know about that day, that they told their relatives that they were taking back the plane, NOT trying to crash it, (although im sure they knew the chances were nil) Im supposing when you say FICTION you mean that it didnt happen, which would be a surprise to all the relatives that lost people that day on that flight. We dont know what all Oscar Schindler said, verbatim either but it makes for a great movie, thats the way things work. Patton never stood in front of a huge american flag, but the speech he made in the movie is taken from many things he really said. I know it must be inconvenient to think that some people actually realized that they had little chance of living, I know its hard to think that some people called home and could only leave messages on the answering machine. Most of them lived lives like ours, they werent type A's that sat in their seats and wet themselves because someone had a bomb.

9. Yes...BUT (and a huge BUT) It's also a typical time frame of a DVD release |
|
It's about 4-6 months after the film left the majority of theatres and thus is a typical DVD release date. It is bizarre how close to 9-11 the DVD is coming out, but this is really nothing more than a coincidence and a marketing element merged together.

I never caught more static on this board then when i started a thread after i saw the premiere in NYC. I never thought I would hear such things from the people on here, I look past it, a lot of the Freepers, that I work with didnt like it either saying that it was "too soon" whatever that meant. The DUers seemed to respond with "fiction" "bush propagana" meme. It was strange. All the critics and everyone I personally know that saw it thought it was top notch, and the Director Paul Greengrass, is an outspoken socialist so the "bush propaganda" thing doesnt work there. It was a brilliant movie, in fact its funny how a socialist like Greengrass and Oliver stone a perinial whipping boy of the right wing are the only people strong enough to get films made about that day. Although Stone is from Manhattan so that makes more since.

Where the plane gets shot down?
I haven't seen the film, and I have heard it praised by all those who saw it from both sides of the political spectrum. I'm just not convinced we'll ever get the real story on the ending of that one.......
