Ugh. How stupid do these guys think we are, anyway? I think these guys view the American public as some idiot herd, and I think that conception springs from two things:

1) Straussian philosophy, which is pretty much based around that idea, and

2) The fact that some regular people actually support them, no matter how much they abuse power.\

Imagine if your only regular experience with the general public was Bush supporters. Imagine if you were a Bush Administration official, and aware of all the lies and abuses that are going on- and your experience with the public consisted of glossy-eyed, mouthbreathing morons shouting "fo-wer mo-wer yeers!".
