(I was about to post the following in response to a thread, but the thread got locked and dropped before I finished typing. Way to go, moderators! Are we now supposed to be scared of you guys as much as of OBL and bottled water? Anyway, I have to post it, because my fiancee is flying in from Poland to San Francisco today, I'm here waiting for her in nail-biting mode right now - not because of the terra, mind, but because of what the airlines will be putting her through. No water, no book, no cellphone.)
Which is precisely the problem. Accusations of this sort, just like 9-11 MIHOP, are not only extremely serious (like, hang the perpetrators from lampposts without a trial serious), but so outrageous a great number of people won't even consider them. Even at DU anything MIHOP is relegated to a dark recess of the forum. And yet if any action is to be taken, we would first have to know for sure.
But we don't know. We don't know about 9-11, or 7-7, and we don't know this time. Many DUers believe in MIHOP, and have arguments to support it, and god knows how many books i have written and movies I've watched, but with all the evidence, there is still no proof. It remains a matter of belief. There is no way to be sure.
I *believe* this current outrage is a hoax, perhaps loosely based on some intelligence about people who got together and talked about how they would bring the Great Satan down. Just like 9-11, there are things in the official story that don't add up. Like with the tower fires and collapse, there is no agreement among technical people and explosive specialists whether it's feasible to blow up a plane using liquids. You'd need lots of them, which would make you suspicious in the first place, and any such concoction would be totally unstable, for one thing. And why are they taking away people's cellphones, since we're talkng about a chemical reaction, you don't need an electronic detonator. And they have known about a theoretical possibility since project Bojinka, ten years' old, right? And the "terrorists" have been apprehended, Blair and Bush are falling over themselves congratulating each other. And... they were following the plot for "12 months or more", and only now have they become so concerned as to take water, cellphones and books from people? So anyone could have done the same thing throughout the last year at least, while the investigation was ongoing?
And books? WTF is up with that?
The timing is definitely not accidental. There may well have been some plot being hatched in the background, but I don't believe one word that is being officially said."Terror from the skies", yeah right. I think so. Many people here think so. But we don't KNOW and we will not know, because there is no way we could possibly know, unless one of the actual perpetrators spoke. And then we'd have to trust them.
And because we don't know, we cannot do anything about it.
