AP: BUSH ADMINISTRATION TRIED TO CUT TERROR FUNDING >>

Administration Tried To Cut Anti-Terror Funding

POSTED: 8:31 am CDT August 12, 2006
UPDATED: 8:46 am CDT August 12, 2006

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration quietly tried to cut $6 million that was earmarked for developing new explosives detection technology -- even as the British terror plot was unfolding. Officials wanted to use the money instead on federal building protection. Congressional leaders rejected the idea.

The maneuver was one in a series of Homeland Security Department steps that left lawmakers and some of the department's own experts questioning the administration's commitment to create better anti-terror technologies.

An investigation by The Associated Press showed the department failed to spend $200 million in research and development money from past years, forcing lawmakers to rescind the money during the summer session of Congress.

The Bush administration has also been slow to start testing a new liquid explosives detector that the Japanese government provided to the United States earlier in 2006.

11. Thanks, that is great!
In this current "scare" however, it is critical that this message gets heard loud and clear. Bush, the "tough on terrorism" non-president, DECREASED terror funding at a very strange and convenient time. Furthermore, it seems he delayed implementation of equipment to find liquid explosives.

This whole thing I believe is an election year jerrymandering. A farce. And the American people should RISE UP and demand an answer, then an apoloty for Bush having made our country less safe.

I firmly believe the war is on the American people just as much as it is on the terrorists. We can win this war though - it's called IMPEACHMENT. And NOW.

29. Everyone on DU should watch that WOW!
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 04:14 PM by Hubert Flottz
The last ten minutes of the video are almost like reliving that horrid day. Knowing what I know about metallurgy I was very impressed buy Mr. Jones's presentation. He raised some great points I'd never considered, but some things that make perfect sense. He nails the PNAC to the wall. Mike Moore's F-9/11 never impressed me as much as that video, as impressive as Moore's movie was. I give it a thumbs up and a half.

And what really tops it off, is professor Jones is a lifelong Reagan Republican and works at BYU. That ought to shake some GOPers up. I could have listened to him for hours!

6. They nixed this particular funding because they
knew this type of attack was the most likely to be next.

This to me shows Bushco wanted a liquid bomb attack to actually happen--for political reasons!

They are fascists and will do anything.

Can anyone doubt LIHOP now?

7. CIA disbands Bin laden unit
CIA disbands Bin laden unit

Nearly five years after George Bush vowed to bring Osama bin Laden to justice "dead or alive", it's the end of the line for the CIA's Alec Station, the unit dedicated to the hunt for the al-Qaida leader.

The unit, named after the son of a counter-terror official, was disbanded last year, it emerged this week, and its agents reassigned in what intelligence officials described as a recognition of the changing nature of al-Qaida.

"The reorganisation just reflects the understanding that the Islamic jihadist movement continues to diversify," an intelligence official said.

Alec Station was founded in 1996, taking its name from the son of Michael Scheuer, the unit's former director. Its two dozen members worked in rented premises outside the CIA headquarters. more...

15. Bush and the GOP have cut and run from our national security...
and squandered our ability to fight at full strength, by depleting our military equipment and our military manpower in Iraq. Bush has done exactly what Bin Laden needed him to do so far. Destabilized the entire Middle East and steadily cut and skimped on funding for real homeland security. Bush has created more hatred than Bin Laden EVER could have hoped to create. Even the little kids who are seeing their families raped, tortured, and killed in the Middle East, will be joining up to fight for YEARS to come. It's almost like Bush wants America to be attacked and destroyed.

Ports deals, massive giveaways to the wealthy in a time of need, billions of dollars missing in Iraq, inept cronies, human rights abuse, war crimes. The list of misdeeds and cases of mismanagement are almost endless.

23. The Busholini Regime doesn't care about protecting America.
This Regime fought against having Homeland Security and now that very same agency is inept and squandering funds. The Busholini Regime is only about expanding Multi-Corp Power on this planet. There is plenty of proof regarding this Regime as being one of the worst for America and the world.

How else could his fascist agenda work? Remember: "if their are no external enemies they must be created" (Strauss, the granddaddy of PNAC)?

This is also why Bush started a war instead of starting a criminal investigation.

32. Something we all can do regarding that 911video on google..here
One thing I have begun to do and would recommend everyone else do, is to just post a link to that video and maybe , like 1 sentence about it...if that. Don't overwhelm folks or turn them off with giant "anti-American" (in their eyes) speeches. Just the link..and maybe a couple words. Post it on every kind of forum you can find..or that you frequent.

For example, I used to play the online video game Everquest. Post the link there. Post the link on grandma's knitting messageboard/forums. Post it in a hunting forum. A cooking forum. A sailing forum. Whatever your into, or can even think of..post a link to it. Prolly get flamed on those boards by a few for non-relevent material, but what you will also achieve is opening the eyes of 1-2, or 20 people per board. Its not like I'll be back at a knitting forum to read the flames. Don't underestimate the "multiplier" effect of doing this.

Don't neccessarily try and get into an arguement with those that won't allow themselves to believe/see the truth...some people can't be reached. Some definitely will though and will tell their coworkers, family, and who knows who else.

Since the MSmedia is not hearing us for whatever their collective reasons, we must use our last great tool, the internet, to awaken our fellow citizens before its too late..assuming that its not already. Just join a bunch of forums and copy and paste something non-threatening along with the link. Statistically, you WILL reach some people, and some of those people will reach out to others, or have further questions and will do follow-up research as a result. All of those who are reached will have been awakened by YOU! Congratulations Patriot!

Again please don't be as verbose as I have been here. Just a couple of words or a sentence plus the link. Something like " This is disturbing", or, "This really bothers me..", or whatever you think will be effective without turning people off immediately. I apologize for sort of advocating mass spam, but I for one feel like it may be our last best chance to reach a very diverse, otherwise close-minded population in a hurry.

36. This administration is so incompetent. The only thing it's good at
is convincing people that they're the only ones who can protect us from the terrorist. Right now, every country on the face of this planet is working overtime to compensate for Bush's neglect. And I bet, that the administration got plenty of warning prior to 9/11, and all Bush did was protect his inner circle.

Republican voters are so stupid.

40. Because National Security will be a big issue come November elections
And I don't think the general public is really aware of what's going on. It's important that they do. Dubai Ports deal got plenty of publicity and it wasn't the type of publicity you want when you are touting how "strong" you are on national security. This should be another nail in the coffin of that bogus repub mantra. As should the "CUT and RUN" Homeland Security pulled on NY & DC by cutting their funds. Democrats should be all over this issue.
