Help with freeper friend bigoted e-mails
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 12:53 PM by Lost-in-FL
Why the US Navy is better than the Iraqi Navy

U. S. NAVY guns!!! Yummy!

**shows a group picture of good looking NAVY Seals**

Iraqi Navy

Give me a sense of humor and
Give me the grace to see a joke,
To get some humor out of life, when
I have been alone so many months because of this stupid war.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is an example of the crap I get from my freeper friend. I don't know if i should call her about this. I want to find out about this picture which is not about the Iraqi navy but seemed like people who are fleeing an area or crossing a river. I really want to know if someone has seen this pic and where is this taking place. It seems to me like they are from the African continent because of their clothes, it could be somewhere in Asia. I didn't find this e-mail a bit funny.

My friends husband been gone pretty much since a month after Sept 11, 2001. He is in the Special Forces and they see each other every 6 or 7 months. I know her pain but I don't know how to get her to stop this crap. If is not this, it is immigration bigoted spam e-mails or cheesy military themed patriotic stuff (I am a veteran but I am disgusted at how brainwashed is our military). I want to know where is the damn geographic location of that picture and reply her e-mail with a nastigram. Please help.

1. Umm if she really is a friend, ask her to stop sending them?
If she is a friend she will stop. If she does not, she does not consider your feelings about anything enough to be a friend.

I've asked a person or two to stop sending RW spam crap via email and they did. As a result I get none of this now.

He's not really in the Special Forces.

He's with his other wife and kids.

3. If you're feeling vindictive, you can go for a scorched...
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 12:58 PM by Kutjara
...earth approach. Perhaps say something like, "Well, considering the NVA who chased us out of Vietnam weren't half as well equipped as these guys, nor were the Somalis who handed us our asses in Mogadishu, not to mention that it took about 20,000 of us to subdue a handful of golfers and failed med students in Grenada, I think we should be pretty afraid of these guys. We won't be laughing so hard when they sink the Nimitz."

That should cause your friend to suffer an instant aneurysm and your argument will be over.

6. I don't think she is very
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 01:06 PM by Lost-in-FL
knowledgeable about what is going on. I think I am the only "minority" friend she ever had (I am hispanic). Her family used to own a plantation in the South and slaves so imagine (I wouldn't go to a family reunion if she invites me... LOL!!). She is very open minded compared to the rest of her family. I avoid at all cost, talking about politics or the war cause I don't want to break our friendship. I think it is getting to that point I don't want to talk to her and i don't like that. She is one of the few people I keep in touch from my days in the service.

10. That's a shame.
Friendships like yours can often last a long time if you steer clear of sensitive areas, but it sounds like she's insistent on trying to drag you into a political debate where you're unlikely to find any common ground.

Maybe you can say something along the lines of "Look, I really value your friendship, but I worry that, if we start arguing about our very different politics, we're going to damage our relationship. I don't want to do that. So, could you leave me off your mailing list when you're sending out emails like these?" Hopefully, she'll have the sense to see that you're trying to preserve your friendship and not insult her.

29. Y'know, I seriously doubt that her family once owned a plantation...
in the South. Take my word, that is a VERY popular delusion for many crackers only a couple of generations removed from sharecropping or a mill village.

4. Did you try Snopes?
Snopes might be able to shed some light on the origin of the picture. It might also validate that the picture of the Navy Seals is real or was instead lifted from a bad Stephen Segal movie.

13. That one where his character dies at the beginning.
Going from a stealth fighter to a passenger plane...might have been "Passenger 57."

15. Yes, that certainly qualifies.
Any film in which he dies at the beginning is immesurably improved by the event.

19. There were WAY too many "airplane" films in the 90s.
Executive Decision, Passenger 57, Air Force One, Con Air.

And yet they were surprised planes could be hijacked on 9/11.

16. Nope. I don't believe there were. Or could be.
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 01:23 PM by mcscajun
And I've seen two, and only two of his films, "Executive Decision", and "Under Siege". The latter was notable only for Tommy Lee Jones' outstanding performance as a psycho terrorist whose demons are all too visible; the former, for his early exit, and for the solid performances of much of the other cast, including Halle Berry, Oliver Platt, John Leguizamo, David Suchet, Len Cariou, J.T. Walsh, B.D. Wong, and the late, great, Andreas Katsulas.

21. "Hard To Oppress" from MADTV-remember that one?
Starring Steven Segal as a brother fighting for the brothers. Pam Grier as Rosa Parks....A woman who knows what she wants.

I'm already rolling in laughter.

33. Now that you mention it.
No, there were no good Segal movies. There are just bad and worse movies starring Segal. I should have posited that in my earlier post. That's what I love about this site. Keeps me honest and on my toes.

It looks like a photoshop to me. Maybe somebody with a bit more knowledge can say for sure, but I think it's just a dumb attempt at humor.

31. It looks VERY photoshopped.
The tell-tale signs are the lack of background depth (solid light-blue backdrop), and the "water". I'm not very versed in photo-shop either however, I'm sure someone like Swamprat could make a stronger case than mine.

9. The pic's at least three years old...going to be hard to trace it
to the source.

I agree with you, though, that a) it probably has little or nothing to do with Iraq, and b) it's tasteless to use a picture of people's obvious misery for a joke.

People fleeing a slaughter, in danger of losing all they have, is the best kind comedy.

I'd send her a bunch of Katrina pictures....lol aren't they a hoot! :sarcasm:

As an added bonus, if she is religious I'd praise her on her compassion for those less fortunate.

Cheers

30. Does that actually make her feel better?
Does it make her feel better to brag about how strong our military is, in comparison to the military of a country we have kept weak? Why not brag about how much stronger you are than an infant? Why not go down the street and beat up the neighborhood kids? After all, you're stronger than they are.

Tell your friend to quit acting like a bully.
