Poll question: Pelosi is the new HRC |
|
Seems as though to try and scare up some campaign funds. the GOP is telling donor that Democratic control of the House woujld mean Speaker Pelosi.
Is her presumed elevation to the Sckpeaker a liability or beneifeit as you look at winning the House back? And actual governing.

3. I don't disagree but it continually amazed me how many DUers think |
|
is more important to make the GOP walk the plank then it is to actually govern with an agenda.

The next speaker is going to have a hell of a time of it. The House is being run now under Tom DeLay rules, and that has got to change.
We don't want to see the Tom DeLay rules being being implemented under new management. There has to be some balance restored in the legislative process. Legislation should not be completely rewritten in Conference Committees. The views of the minority must be respected and even taken into account. The process should be transparent.

The role as of the speaker is about govenrnance more than it is ideaology. the Majority leader has the reall power base.

I say that because I think she has backbone. I first interpreted the post to be more directed at whether she was strong or weak.

We have not nationalized the election on our terms. If we allow them to nationalize it using there scare the middle tactics. It could work to our disadvantage.
We have got to make this about their lapdog insitence og Giving the WH anythint it wants.

And along those lines, we have to take the word liberal back - we have to make the public aware of the real meaning: equality, dignity, compassion, empowered individuals.

11. It hasn't always been that way |

Newt Gingrich had real power. He wasn't a front for any majority leader.
Hastert was a front for Tom DeLay as long as DeLay was there. He probabably doesn't know what to do now that DeLay is no longer there to tell him.
I expect Ms. Pelosi will wield some of her own power as speaker, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. In any case, we/re going to find out, aren't we?

The speaker does not have to be a member of the House. And don't you know that would be Bush's worst nightmare.
