Zogby says Dems will not take control of the Senate

http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1058

Released: January 19, 2006
Democrats Gaining in U.S. Senate Races, But Not Enough to Grab Control

They Make Gains at Key Statehouses by Leading in Traditional Democratic Strongholds

As the New Year gets into full swing and political races across the nation begin to take shape, Democrats are poised to make modest gains in Congress, a new Wall Street Journal/Zogby Interactive poll shows. However, Republicans appear to have enough support to retain control of the U.S. Senate.

If the election were held now, the survey found that, of the 33 U.S. Senate races on ballots around the country this year, Democrats would pick up a net gain of one seat. They could knock off Ohio Republican Mike DeWine, a two-term incumbent moderate who has angered his home-state base by going against President Bush on judicial nominees, and Pennsylvania Republican Rick Santorum, a staunch conservative who is running a tough race for re-election this year against the son of a very well-known Democratic icon. Familial politics works in the favor of the GOP in New Jersey, however, as Republican Tom Kean, Jr. the son of a popular governor there, polls well against his Democratic opponents, including Bob Menendez, who was recently appointed to fill the senate seat vacated by Jon Corzine, who resigned after winning the race for governor in November.

Democrats are leading in the Senate races in Minnesota and Maryland, while Republicans appear ready to hold onto their seat in Tennessee.

Democrats are leading in the races for governor in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Iowa, though Iowa and Wisconsin are very tight contests.

In statehouse races, Democrats are also leading due to Arnold Schwarzenegger's California struggles and the pending retirement of Republican George Pataki, who steps down after 12 years in New York. Democrats are also leading in gubernatorial races in Maryland and Massachusetts, where Republicans now hold the governors’ mansions.

The interactive survey is a package of 25 statewide polls conducted simultaneously to measure Senate and gubernatorial races in key battleground states across the country. Each state carries its own margin of error. This is the fourth round of polling in a series by the Wall Street Journal Online and Zogby Interactive. The project continues at regular intervals through the year.

6. For the same reason Kerry is not in the White House: Diebold.

Zogby is an idiot with a persona; agenda. Coincidentaly, he is right here, but not for the stated reasons.

10. Nonsense. (not about Diebold) just that we can't win the Senate!
We can win in spite of Diebold. Diebold is being taken out of many states. We CAN win this!

16. Name one state electronic voting machines are being taken out of?
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 02:39 AM by LaPera
He's correct, your wrong...All the republicans need is just one or two key precincts in each state to turn the election in their favor in any state...They get huge false numbers at those precinct's and no one bats an eye, too late, and the republicans are in office, because of electronic voting machines, ALL the electronic voting machines are owned privately by republicans.

It doesn't take the whole state, just a few precinct's in a state, and one never knows which precincts the republicans are going to cheat in and exploit, until its too late.

As more and more electronic voting machine pour into states all over the country, via the bullshit Help America Vote Act. Some state may not allow Diebold machines in but none are kicking them out once their in...

And the ones who aren't using Dieblod are being replced and using other republican privately owned electronic voting machines, like ES&S.

3. They're trying to say they'll give us a few. Enough
to make Diebold look better. But they're not gonna give us enough to lose control of what they have.

5. No one would have predicted Republicans to take over the house in 94
in January. I don't know if anyone was predicting them to take over in October but they most certainly did. It's way to early to tell what the public is going to do. I have a feeling a lot of one party levers are going to be pulled.

7. That Is Why We Need A GOTV Effort Like Never Before.
November will have come and gone in the blink of an eye, and we risk the possibility of hindsight madness realizing we should've spent far more time putting our efforts into registering voters and mobilizing the masses rather than scanning articles each day figuring out which democrat to lash out at worthlessly.

These months will fly by. We must start mobilizing now and beginning the biggest grass roots efforts ever, even far surpassing the 04 effort. This is even more vital than 08 (winning back congress), yet I fear too many are already focused too far ahead.

I know we can do this and win back both houses. But it ain't gonna happen by seeing if it'll just fall in our laps. Gore mobilized us for a reason the other day, and it wasn't for 08. Get motivated, get on message, get them registered, and work like you've never worked before at it.

/end preaching.

21. Do some research, and check out what really happened in Ohio!
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 02:04 AM by LaPera
Mark Crispin Miller's book "Fooled Again" is an easy & fast way to start...

Amazon books.

Privately owned electronic voting machines are killing us, and no way to get any evidence and the republicans refuse to let anyone in their machines to check out the obvious fraud and numbers that don't match.

12. I think it'd be more likely
that we win NJ but lose OH.

I don't really buy Zogby's analysis. He's not really as accurate as some make him out to be.

18. I tend to agree
Ohio seems too corrupt, its major players too entrenched, to turn around like that. Still, if enough of the GOP machine gets indicted, we could see something happen.

NJ, especially with Corzine taking over, seems like a safer bet.

I think that the Dems are going to kick some major ass in November! :headbang:
