TOON: Sunday's Doonesbury (Iraq - "Not Dyin' In Vain")
Like I said last Sunday, the guy's on a roll - not letting up on the * administration a bit lately. (As usual, a few recommendations to the Greatest Page so others may find and see what Trudeau is up to. Thanks.)

8. Copyright & DUquestion
Thanks for posting the cartoon.
Question: I had a post edited because I quoted 8 sentences of a newspaper story, which some busy-body DU wonk decided was too close to copyright infringemnet per DU rules by her lights. If copying 8 sentences of a 500 word wire story is against DU policy, how is it copying an entire cartoon passes the DU copyright policy test?

10. well, I dunno but they're trying to shut down Free Republic
for copyright infringement because they posted more than 4 paragraphs, they're trying to keep
us from the lawyers

:-)

11. Welcome to DU!
:patriot:

:toast:

There's not necessarily too much logic to it, much like U.S. Copyright Law, which has become more protecting the money of corporations than balancing a free creative society with income rights. Mostly everyone here is looking out for you, so those "busy-body DU wonks" can come in handy sometimes.

Images and text are treated differently. I don't know the exact laws, but most cartoonists and their syndicates recognize the need to get one or two cartoons out as part of establishing reputation, whereas reproducing part of an article helps to bring traffic to a site full of ads, but reproducing the entire article would not. The owners of the DU site have their rules posted and they don't want to get sued and then not have a site.

9. K & R...
:kick:
Yet another instance where Bush has made a mess and left it for someone else to deal with and clean up...
I'm referring to the fact that his successor is going to have to deal with when to pull the plug on Iraq.

I'll say this for him. He's consistent. :grr:
