Don't fly US Airways. They don't honor Travel Credits. |
|
My wife was bumped from a flight from FL -> CA in April. US Airways gave her a travel voucher for a round trip.
We are planning a vacation in Oct to DC area and are attempting to redeem the voucher. US Airways is attempting to reneg on the deal by claiming that "all voucher seats are taken up for the entire month of October".
What's with this deal?
US Airways bumps a passenger from a flight because of their poor planning. The promise to grant a free round trip flight in exchange for that inconvenience. It seems to me that they should not further inconvenience the passenger by requiring that she travel at their convenience.
But that's what's happening.
Don't fly US Airways.

2. They are doing the same thing with miles. Technically they get around |
|
it by only allowing mabybe 1 seat per flight to award miles or vouchers. So with one seat per flight you can see how they 'sell out' quickly.
The fuckers.

3. Bumping because we're pissed. |
|
I talked to the customer service department of US Airways. They are unmovable on the "we inconvenienced you, but you still have to use our voucher at our convenience" policy.
Ms. Longship and I booked flights on a competing airline and are taking action against US Airways.
* We have talked with the LA Times, who is interested in the story.
* We will be writing LTTE to our local newspapers and to the Arizona Republic (home town newspaper of US Airways).
We are *pissed* about this.

5. Never had a prob w/USAirways or Delta- I ALWAYS give up my seat if asked- |
|
and have been able to use their vouchers for the next time's travel.
With American Airlines, I was stuck with a credit that I was never able to use. Eventually, I just gave up on trying...
Perhaps it's also a function of status w/the airline- frequent flyer, milage accrued, trips taken in a short time...

when you are bumped, you need to insist on receiving the voucher for a dollar amount instead
i have done this w. continental airlines, america west, and northwest airlines
both airlines are notorious for not ever having any open seats if you accept the voucher for "free round trip domestic travel"
however the vouchers for a dollar amount (generally varies from $200 to $400) per person can be used to buy any seat on the airplane, even discount fares
a gate agent at northwest even told me to do this, she said, "i can give you a voucher for a free round trip ticket but you would be unlikely to be able to use it unless you can plan trip 330 (i think that's the number) days in advance so i advise you to take the voucher for $300 off your next flight"
i am very happy with my "bumps" but only because i have been carefully following her advice and always insist on taking the dollars-off voucher
once of my best "bumps" i got a $300 voucher from northwest and they allowed me to use it to purchase 2 tickets, for myself and my hubby, tickets were $205 apiece at a fare sale, so i could put the $300 voucher on it, then pay only $110 for our round-trip domestic travel, we were very happy
with continental and northwest, if you buy your ticket w. the dollars-style voucher, you will even get the miles, america west tho they would not give me miles for these trips -- nor would they allow the leftover money to carry over (one of my vouchers was for $400 but the actual discount fare on the flight was only about $289)
