Supposedly you sometimes vote Republican because of taxes. You believe Democrats take too much money from you so they can help the poor and other people who need help from the government.
Don't you realize that Republicans have taken money from Veterans in the form of higher medical fees and deductibles in the VA medical system?
Don't you realize that Republicans cause increase of property taxes and other taxes on the state and local levels to make up for so called tax cuts or no tax increases on the Federal level?
Don't you realize that Republican have increased the Medicare part B premiums from 68 dollars a month 2 years ago and it will go up to 98 dollars a month in 2007.
Don't you realize that Republicans have means tested the Medicare part D program in 2006 to make middle class families pay more than lower middle class and poor people?
Don't you realize that Republicans have means tested Medicare Part B that will go into effect in 2007 again costing middle class people more money.
Don't you realize that gasoline cost $1.50 a gallon when Bush stole the presidency in 2000 and now in 2006 gasoline now costs $3 a gallon in 2006? The Republicans did nothing about this. This private tax costs you alot of money.
SO before you blame Democrats for taxing you to help the poor and others, look what the Republicans have done and they don't help the poor very willingly.
Next time you might just not want to vote Republican because their taxes appear hidden.

1. With the derogatory tone that Americans typically take to the |
|
swing voter (moderate/independent) it is no wonder the political choices are not worse then they are. Because of the polarization of American politics only a handful of candidates have any serious competition and it is only loosely based on the individuals performance. The swing voter is the voter that changes her opinion based on the situation; someone who rewards good choices (according to her judgment) and punishes bad choices. In is rarely the card carrying Democrat or Republican that holds their politician responsible. In the long run it is those who make such choices that keep democracy strong.
Keep in mind that the democrats would impose hidden taxes on people as well. There are a variety of ways but most of them are mostly some form of deadweight loss. The “cost” for somebody making a decision based primarily on taxation would likely be lower for Republican policies, though we both know that taxes are not everything.
Also when making such a list in the future you may want to include the cost of future taxes because of deficit spending and the taxes implicit through costs with relaxed pollution standard.

|
The Republicans use it to enrich the rich and their company donors.
