Lisa Myers reported 7 hr. delays at Heathrow Airport...
This morning on the Imus Show, Lisa Myers called from London to report. She said they had cut back on some of the restrictions. The airport was beginning to be in a gridlock. It appears now, even though they suspect there may be more threats, that it most important that the airline industry not be brought to a standstill...

1. I'm kinda torn on that.
I mean if there really is this massive threat why not shut it all down? Strange position to say OMFG THOUSANDS ARE ABOUT TO DIE...but then say OK OK SINCE We'll lose money we better let them on the planes anyway...just make it intolerably difficult but keep the money flowing and hope there isn't some OTHER oddball plan we are missing.

If it's ACTUALLY bad enough to be at red alert seems to me that it should all be shut down...but then people would really freak out and demand actual answers.

4. 'Beginning' to be in a gridlock?
It has been in gridlock since Thursday. Heathrow has cancelled about a third of flights on every day from Thursday up to and including today.

Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday

BAA, the owner of Europe's busiest airport, will run Heathrow at 80% capacity for the foreseeable future to ease the backlog caused by security checks.

Around 250 flights a day into and out of the airport will be cancelled, with British Airways the hardest hit. The airline scrapped 105 departures yesterday, and a further 44 today, including all short-haul flights from Terminal 4.

5. Those here who've flown in and out of Heathrow
already know that their security is much better than US airports on any given day. DH's company is British-owned, so he makes several visits a year to London. He agrees.

I'm amazed at seven-hour delays there. I can't even imagine what it must be like.
