Everywhere I go, people are pissed off at gas prices.

I was in Dallas last week, and everyone I talked to was pissed off about gas prices. Seattle, San Francisco, Dayton, Cleveland, Nashville. Everybody I talked to there is pissed off about gas prices. My answer to these people is usually a short and sweet "what do you expect when the federal government is run by oil-men?" I always get a nod of agreement from Libs and Cons alike.

Except...

I go home to San Diego last weekend and everybody is pissed off about gas prices, and you would think that they would see anything to do with oil-men running the country and make that connection? <insert John Belushi style "BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO here.>

They are blaming it on Liberals and environmentalists. :banghead:

Un-fucking-believable. They are actually saying that "liberals and extreme environmentalists" have a stranglehold on policy making in our country. :argh:

I swear to god, the entire 30% that still support Bush all live in my hometown.

5. whaddya expect?
San Diego = retired old guard navy = traditional conservatives being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Do not question authority. Blame whomever authority tells you to blame, no matter how absurd. Fresno, San Diego; it's pretty weird though, there is definitely a concentration.

7. They still haven't connected the dots
so we have a lot of education to do.

The high gas prices aren't due to the Iraq war or to Katrina or anthing else like that. The high gas prices can be attributed to the insane fiscal policy of the GOP, the tax cutting frenzy that has fattened the insanely rich and depleted the treasury. That insane policy has caused currency traders to see this country as unstable (it is) and as a result the dollar has lost 40% of its value since Stupid has been in office.

That is where 90% of the increase in the price at the pump has come from. We all need to educate people about this wherever and whenever we hear them complaining about high gas prices.

The buck doesn't buy what it used to, no matter how cheap the Chinese crap that falls apart in a week is at Wal Mart.

8. BP's stupid engineers are to blame for West Coast gas prices
Your post has not mentioned the shut down of the Prudhoe Bay oil field.
They assumed that a cheaper testing protocol would ensure secure knowledge that the pipeline would be structurally sound.
If you ask me...the negligence was purposeful, and quite likely criminal. California is being milked like a cow for its energy dollars.

10. Just ask them to explain
why their great Republican Commander-In-Chief and his cronies who have a majority in both houses of congress and on the supreme court can't get around this supposed stranglehold. :eyes:

GOP barely retains key San Diego House seat

It was an uncharacteristically strong showing by a Democrat in a district (CA-50) described by Congressional Quarterly just last year as a steadily growing GOP stronghold. Busby lost by fewer than 5,000 votes in a district where no Democrat congressional candidate has come within 50,000 votes of winning since the district was created following the 2000 census.

The outcome means that Democrats still need to pick up 15 GOP seats in November to win control of the House, and Bilbray, who served in Congress from 1995 to 2001, will return to Washington to be sworn in this week.

"Winning an election is like sex. Even when it's bad, it's still good,'' said Mike Collins, a Republican strategist who worked on the campaign of a candidate in the district who was eliminated in the March primary for the special election.

The broader meaning of the San Diego vote and what it portends for November was open to interpretation.

in the SF, CA area.

Fear not, I'm sure it will catch up soon enough. August won't let May get away with it.

13. "Don't blame the billionaires" is the conservative battle cry
Don't blame 'em for high gas prices.....liberals won't let 'em drill.
Don't blame 'em for high health costs....It's the frivolous lawsuits.
Don't blame 'em for global warming....That's God's fault.
Don't blame 'em for outsourcing our jobs....The unions did it to themselves.

How they get "Barstool Republicans" who are two paychecks away from welfare to get on board with them is beyond me.
