American Girl ends their support of the "I CAN" program and Girls, Inc.
I received this email yesterday from American Girl in response to an email I sent to them a while back thanking them for their support of the "I CAN" program. Looks like they finally caved in to the radical right.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting American Girl to share your thoughts about the 2005 “I CAN” program and partnership. We take all comments from our customers very seriously.

As originally planned, our “I CAN” program and 2005 partnership with Girls, Inc. officially ended on December 26, 2005—when our Website, catalogue, and retail stores shifted focus to our new 2006 products and programs.

We have no definite plans to continue this program in its current format, nor do we know if we will choose another benefit partner for a future campaign. However, we remain focused on our singular objective to help make a meaningful and positive difference in the lives of all young girls. This is—and always will be—our priority.

Again, we appreciate the time you took to let us know your thoughts on this program. We remain committed to creating high-quality, age-appropriate products and experiences for girls.

Sincerely,

American Girl Customer Service

2. Thank you. I just joined. I am a big customer of American Girl
and when I ordered Christmas presents from it for my 3 granddaughters I always congratulated the company on its partnership with Girls, Inc.

This is so sad. Someone should start a Liberal Girls doll, those who would run for office, find cures for diseases, run successful businesses and become community leaders and role models. The name liberal would turn off the fundies and RWers and the rest of us could have our untainted product.

7. I like Yahoo to a degree
I could never leave it.

I created my first group on Yahoo, Anti-CNP

But, maybe I should expand my domain.

I'll look into it.

3. here are some ideas for new dolls and storybooks -
A girl that gets pregnant from a sexually abusive father and goes to a "back alley butcher" for an abortion and dies.

A girl that comes to the realization that she is a lesbian and is disowned by her entire family.

But lets just keep those sweet little Christian girls coming

Very sad because my daughter loves the dolls and reads all the books. They have really helped her develop an interest in history.

6. American Girl Dolls Are Realistic Looking, Come With Historical Outfits
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 08:39 AM by cryingshame
and an historical narrative where that particular American Girl participates in an historical event.

There was also a movie made of an American Girl Doll who lived with her wealthy Uncle and Aunt where the Aunt was a Sufferagette. That American Girl also befriended the children of servants contrary to class norms of early 19oo's America and found out how abusive the early factories were towards children and women etc.

9. Most of the American Girl dolls represent an era in history and come with
a storybook telling about that girls life at that time in history. They are usually dressed in clothes from that time. One of my daughters has Felicity, a girl from the American Revolution, and my other daughter has Kit who lived during the depression.

Maybe they could have one named Maya Marcel-Keyes or Mary Cheney

14. Sad
but I guess they are in business to make money and not to press political ideals, so they caved because the boycott really hit their bottom lines. These dolls are very popular with the fundies. Or they were.
