Lieberman's college roommate would pick Lamont By: David Wyles
"I'm not supporting a successful conclusion of our mission in Iraq because George Bush is. I'm supporting a successful conclusion in Iraq because I think the safety and freedom of my children and grandchildren, and everybody's children and grandchildren, depends on us not having the terrorists take over Iraq, and from there, strike at us again."
- Sen. Joseph Lieberman July 4, 2006
Saddam Hussein and his government didn't have weapons of mass destruction. Contrary to the distortions and outright lies of George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condi Rice, and Colin Powell, Iraq never posed any real threat to the United States.
So, why did we attack Iraq? Because Saddam's bluster got George's dander up and his britches in a twist? Because it had "better" targets than Afghanistan? Because it had oil? Because President Bush and his neocon henchmen wanted to expand American hegemony in the Middle East? Or was it, as Bush has claimed, because of "God"?
Bush told Ariel Sharon and Mahmoud Abbas at a summit meeting in 2003 that "God told me to strike at al-Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East."
