The Knob Creek machine gun shoot - for real

http://splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?aid=641

Big Bang
The Knob Creek machine gun shoot attracts people of all kinds, including neo-Nazis and other extremists. But Folks get along just fine as they revel in an orgy of firepower.

Wearing orange foam earplugs to muffle the nearby thunder of relentless automatic weapons fire, a grizzled man with SS lightning bolt tattoos on his forearms pulls a little red wagon loaded with rifle ammunition. Carefully picking his way through the teeming crowd, he passes table after table laden with machine guns, gas masks, combat knives, war memorabilia and bomb-making guides. The man sheds his camouflage tactical vest to reveal a worn black T-shirt emblazoned with a Totenkopf, the Death's Head symbol of the Waffen SS. Then he parks his wagon to join a huddle of shoppers surrounding a hard-faced spokeswoman from Valkyrie Arms who's extolling the virtues of the Olympia, Wash.-based arms maker's new product, the Valkyrior 556 Rotary Gun.

"It's .223-caliber, six barrels, basically you're looking at a hand-cranked mini-gun," she says.

-snip-

"We need to ship a few to the border and start splattering Mexicans," he says.

-snip-

Attendance tops 10,000.

Saturday Night Special
The Saturday night climax of every Knob Creek machine gun festival is the famous "night shoot." On the upper range, heavy machine gunners load their weapons with phosphorus tracer rounds and take aim through night vision goggles at glow sticks marking 50-gallon drums filled with gasoline and strapped with sticks of dynamite. The signal for the night shoot to begin is the whirring arrival of a black helicopter, its M-60 door gun spewing chartreuse tracer rounds from the sky.

The fiery explosions illuminate the grinning faces of thousands. The vast majority of them are white. But just as Walker claimed, there are a few blacks and Hispanics. All are unified, at least for the moment, in the taboo joy of mass destruction as spectator sport.

and they probably go home and watch porno while on viagra.

reading the snipped parts will either scare, enrage, or nauseate you - or all of the listed.

maybe one of these 10,000 crazy men is one of your neighbors.

americans work in the factories that make these killing machines and it's munitions.

america is a wonderful place.

2. Not to mention liberals who understand
that private gun ownership is a progessive value. Disarming ourselves as we do is stupid. Brady and HCI are not doing the progressive movement any favors.

4. Oh yeah . . . and if we all would just support gun orgies
. . . this group will all vote Democratic.

Pfft.

8. My point was that not all firearm aficionados are neo nazis
There are a number of liberals (and growing) who understand that it is not a right/left issue. Pink Pistols are a good case in point. Some of the more radical progressives I know strongly advocate weapons ownership and training well above the NRA position. While I do not agree with all of their ideas, they have the right idea when it come to private ownership of firearms being a progressive norm.

6. We have guns too (about a dozen) but this comment is chilling
"Just as fast as you can crank it," she replies. "We just shipped a load of these babies to civilian security contractors in Iraq for convoy protection. When I go to sleep tonight, I'll dream of towel heads splattering all over the place."

13. If it's a new automatic weapon, then it is banned for U.S. civilians
by the Title 2/Class III provisions of the National Firearms Act of 1934, as amended by the McClure-Volkmer Act of 1986. All automatic weapons are restricted to military/police/government use only by the NFA, with the exception of weapons manufactured prior to 1986 and registered with the government before the 1986 cutoff date. To own a pre-'86, you have to undergo a thorough clearance process and receive government permission in the guise of a BATFE Form 4.

If this clown is mouthing off about machineguns she's selling in Iraq, then those guns CANNOT be sold to civilians in the U.S. Of course, it's also possible she has nothing to do with machineguns and is peddling a load of crap.

I agree with you that her comment is deeply disturbing, whether she's telling the truth or not.

7. Amen brother...
Given the current gang of idiots and assholes in Washington, we're going to need a Second Amendment more than ever.

Besides, I estimate the Democratic party lost 10% of its votes solely because it was on the wrong side of the gun control issue. We need to tell the Brady Bunch "Thanks, but no thanks."

5. If it weren't for the neo-nazis and other racist nuts,
I'd want to go to this shoot. Don't knock firearms fun until you've tried it.

12. Full-Auto is something I'd really love to get into...
unfortunately, the ammo alone would probably bankrupt me (never mind the cost of the gun). :headbang:

I attended the Hanson, MA machine gun shoot a few months ago.

The firepower and assortment of full-auto firearms there was pretty impresive.
Everything from WW-I Maxim and Lewis belt feds, to more modern day weapons and everything in between (there were a couple of GE Mini-guns there as well).

than one repressed middle-class suburbanite racist with delusions of being normal, but that's just me.

16. Automatic weapons have nothing to do with the gun issue...
since they have been VERY tightly controlled at the Federal level for 72 years now.

A wealthy few with squeaky clean records (and more disposable income than I can dream of) own some collectible pre-'86's, but most people can't afford to due to the McClure-Volkmer Act.

Even a cheapo civilian-transferable AK-47 will set you back $15,000.00, and I've seen M16A2's going for as much as $75K, depending on the collectibility of that variant. And it's not unusual for some WW1 and WW2 machineguns to command six-figure prices.
