Bush Says "U.S. Safer, But Not Yet Safe"
Bush Warns That Terrorists Have the Advantage
By Daniela Deane
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, August 15, 2006; 1:26 PM

President Bush said today the government is doing "everything in our power to protect" the American people from another terrorist attack but warned again that terrorists have the advantage when attacking the United States. "They've got to be right one time," Bush said at the National Counterterrorism Center in McLean. "We've got to be right 100 percent of the time to protect the American people."

Bush's comments came as British police announced they had arrested another suspect in the alleged plot that became public last week to blow up several airliners bound for the United States from Britain. "We disrupted a terror plot, a plot where people were willing to kill innocent life to achieve political objectives," Bush said...

In his remarks, Bush said it was "our solemn duty to protect the American people." He said America was "safer than it has been, but it's not yet safe. The enemy has an advantage when attacking our homeland."

1. How do the jobless feel about this?
If I was out of work for x number of years and nobody to turn to or nowhere to go while being pissed on by my fellow Americans who prefer to "think" I'm lazy (at least until their jobs go bye-bye), I'd be pretty depressed too...

What's being left TO protect? The national debt?

2. This "100% of the time" mantra is really starting to grate

especially because it's always trotted out to justify some new bizzaro restriction on whatever innocuous thing they want to stop us from doing (hair gel on planes). Or, in some cases, flagrant constitutional violations (warrantless searches/wiretaps).

Police work, not infringement of the 4th Amendment, will go a long way toward keeping us safe.

5. It's getting old over in Britain too.
The new police powers proposal is disturbingly close to Judge Dredd - only lacking the on-the-spot executions. If they catch some thief with no license driving *your* car, they would be able to instantly order the car compacted as part of their crackdown on no-license, no-insurance drivers.

3. Oh, good grief
We're nover going to be "safe" as long as Shrub is in power.
Even when/if he's gone, we'll never be safe anymore.
I think we probably weren't "safe" before Chimp, but he certainly didn't do anything to help matters.
Sorry for the ramble.
God help us all. :cry:

6. Huh?
Then we're not safer. We can only be SAFE-ER, if we are safe and are made MORE safe. Hence the use of the comparative!

So, we CANNOT be SAFER and not safe! That's impossible. What an idiot!

As images of Osama bin Goldstein are flashed on the Ministry of Truth's screens across America, Big Brother Bush reminds us
* WAR IS PEACE
* FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
* IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

9. 'Terrorists Have the Advantage': after 5 years, Mr. Bush?
Are you touting that as evidence of your SUCCESS, Mr. Bush?

11. Good Catch!
If after the Pat Act, after the NSA spying, after the war in Iraq, after the toppling of the Taliban, after tracing banking transactions, they still have the advantage, then Silverspoon has completely failed. He, by his own admission, has failed.

I wonder how many in the media will make that connection?

Oh yeah, that could happen! :eyes:

13. I Included It In An LTTE Today
Perhaps some others here can do the same. A coordinated LTTE blast with a consistent theme.

10. What's this "we" shit, Chimpy? The US didn't do squat on this one
except to rush the Brits into action before they wanted to move.
