17. I just called, and talked to a guy for a while.

Somehow, I kept my cool and engaged the guy in a pretty long conversation regarding the ad.

I told him that an ad like that has no place in NY politics and should be shelved. He started out by saying they've gotten a lot of positive response from the ad, but as the conversation went on he sounded more than a little sheepish about the ad itself. I reminded him that it was okay for his candidate to go after Sen. Clinton on her votes and her record - but that using the Osama picture was way over the top.

He said that if Sen. Clinton were president and she 'gutted the NSA wiretapping provisions, we'd be sitting in shock right now watching 4,000 people die over the Atlantic Ocean.'

I laughed out loud - then told him that it was British intelligence and law enforcement that cracked the case. He told me that I didn't know that for sure, because I didn't know about how NSA was wiretapping in Europe.

I told him that that was the problem - that nobody knows what the NSA was doing. I asked him if that didn't bother him at all, and he didn't answer.

After I spoke my piece, the guy actually thanked me for calling! It was pretty weird.

Over the last six years, the GOP have proved they will go to any legnths (and I do mean "any", the word is an absolute) to stay in power. Smears, fear, intimidation. If they could get away with it, Rove would happily order every Democrat voter into gas chambers. I'm not one of those who thinks the US government conspired to cause 9/11 but the current power structure would have had no problem at all doing so given the virtual carte blanche it's given their guy.
