St. Bernard Parish Prez Responding to a FEMA Claim: "That's Bullshit"

"That's Bullshit" On 360

Anderson Cooper hosted 360 from St. Bernard's Parish in Louisiana last night. (I wish he'd anchor from the Gulf Coast full-time -- someone needs to.) During the "Keeping Them Honest" segment, Henry "Junior" Rodriguez, president of St. Bernard Parish, uttered an expletive:

COOPER: Appreciate you being with us. You've heard FEMA's statement that it is basically you guys, it is local officials, it is state red tape that's holding up these trailers.

RODRIGUEZ: FEMA's a damn lie. They can't tell the truth.

COOPER: Absolutely that there's --

RODRIGUEZ: We have no restrictions in St. Bernard Parish. I can't speak about any other parish. We have no restrictions, we have everything.

COOPER: They say there are problems with the local energy company, that the sites, that the state has to approve the sites.

RODRIGUEZ: That's bullshit.

COOPER: We're on the air, sir.

I'm glad that Mr. Cooper told it like it is.

2. "We're on the air, sir"

Yes we are, Mr. Cooper. So why are you polluting the airwaves with FEMA lies and not checking into it yourself? Instead, you buttonhole some overworked, beleaguered local official and demand to know why he isn't outperforming the federal government and doing their job for them?

I can fully understand Rodriguez' anger, and you can bet that the "scandal" here will be that he called bullshit, not that FEMA can't find its own ass with both hands and a flashlight.

A tried-and-true speaker's device, once employed by a friend of mine, is to run down a list of outrageous things. In his case, he was talking about the grinding poverty so many in our country face every day, in a land with so much. He cited four or five statistics and facts contrasting our national priorities and federal spending. He rounded off with, "and you don't give a shit. And what's even worse, is that more of you will be offended that I just said 'shit' than you are about our out-of-whack budget priorities."

3. to cooper's "we're on the air, sir." rodriguez should have said, "then

let me say it again, loud and clear: "that's bullshit."

with no real consequences? (No fine, just "put on hiatus").

If Rodriguez was a Repuke, he'd be gettin his own talk show lined up on Faux . . .
