Well gee, if only he'd said this in 2004. Oh well, at least another conervative sees through the sham of Bush foreign policy.
Despite an obligatory consrrvative slam on the left in the article, otherwise, Will is actually making sense.

The Triumph of Unrealism

By George F. Will
Tuesday, August 15, 2006; Page A13

.....Immediately after the London plot was disrupted, a "senior administration official," insisting on anonymity for his or her splenetic words, denied the obvious, that Kerry had a point. The official told The Weekly Standard: "The idea that the jihadists would all be peaceful, warm, lovable, God-fearing people if it weren't for U.S. policies strikes me as not a valid idea. do not have the understanding or the commitment to take on these forces. It's like John Kerry. The law enforcement approach doesn't work."

This farrago of caricature and non sequitur makes the administration seem eager to repel all but the delusional. But perhaps such rhetoric reflects the intellectual contortions required to sustain the illusion that the war in Iraq is central to the war on terrorism, and that the war, unlike "the law enforcement approach," does "work..."

..Foreign policy "realists" considered Middle East stability the goal. The realists' critics, who regard realism as reprehensibly unambitious, considered stability the problem. That problem has been solved.

1. Every Dem should be on the same page quoting Will on this - that's how GOP
does it to turn a meme into a fact. Dems need to stay on the same page and say their leaders are STILL right, and press facts to become facts in the public mind.

3. Actually very well written
Will is usually a hack, but that was some pretty good writing, dryly sarcastic. Stability has indeed been "solved."

I was listening to As It Happens from the CBC last night, and unlike our tame media, they had a Hezbollah spokesman on, giving his side of things. They were tough, but fair, just as they were the other night with an Israeli spokesman.

Although it was difficult to understand everything he said (his English was good, but accented and he was on a cell phone), his main point is that Hezbollah didn't start the war, didn't shoot any missiles until two days after the initial Israeli attack, and that they will get billions from Arab states to rebuild the damaged areas.

Underneath it all, though, was a very clear "we won, we kicked ass, and we are going to be a HUGE organization in the near future." Imagine this little "terrorist" group with BILLIONS in the bank...

5. Unlike RW nutjob columnists like O'Leilly,
George Will often does make sense. My local paper has printed both of their columns - but usually they use O'Lielly's. I hope they use Will this week

6. Why is it okay for Will to use polysyllabic words but not Kerry?
Why does the right turn to George Will for sage advice and admire him for his eloquence, yet they mock Kerry?

That's a rhetorical question and we all know the answer.

9. Will and Buckley are sages, while Kerry's just showing off.
Of course, back in the 70s Kerry talked in the same serious tones and he was called charismatic and compelling. Since the dumbing down of America thru the GOP control of the broadcast media, they try to convince us Kerry is just boring.

8. That's an excellent piece
Will has been backing off his BushLuv the last few weeks on "This Week With George Snuffleupagous."

He's a voice of reasoned calm that is much appreciated from the old right wing, for my money.

11. I hope the old guard is ready to take back the party from the fascists and
the EndTimers.

I would welcome back the old Republican party of Barry Goldwater and Nelson Rockefeller.

12. I never thought I'd ever, ever, ever feel that way....
... but I do, just like you.

I think I could handle the GOP... I mean, it would be pretty fun beating them, but at least the old school isn't entirely psycho. It's the Rovians and Neocons that get my bee in such a bonnet.
