FBI nabs ELF "terrorists" ... Fortier released from prison.
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 12:46 PM by Flubadubya
Wow, what a dichotomy there. Let me first say that anyone who engages in violent activities for any cause, be it just or otherwise, is participating in a crime and it is wrong.

It IS still amazing to me, however, that the FBI can concentrate so much effort and attention on these environmentalists'/animal rights activists' arrests, but just yesterday let a long-time "terrorist" out of prison who was involved in the Oklahoma bombing... which, by the way, they refuse to call a "terrorist" act. It was just "a bombing".

These douche bags really have some nerve though. CNN's header called ELF "the largest terrorist operation in the United States today". Yep, those terrorist environmentalists are certainly the worst ever... hell, maybe in the whole wide world! :sarcasm:

2. CNN called ELF ...
wow - Wonder if CNN was using al-Qaeda's sleeper-cell membership list for comparison . . . I would think that ELF looked like pikers against the #s of the KKK . . .

3. The War on Greens
Time to bring out my favorite Tom Paine article:

The Fringe: You Too Might Be A Terrorist!

The War On The Greens
David Case is the executive editor of TomPaine.com.

If you've ever given money to an environmental organization, if you support the movement's agenda, then you're probably part of a grand conspiracy that's degrading life in America. Worse yet, you might even be a terrorist, or at least an accomplice. At least that's what Nick Nichols seems to think.

Nichols' views wouldn't matter if he were just another backwoods loser. On the contrary, environmental watchdogs fear he's at the vanguard of efforts to exploit the nation's post-September 11th mood by tarring the entire green movement as extremists. Nichols acts under the pretext that, "If environmental groups cost business money, then they're eco-terrorists," says Dan Barry, of the Clearinghouse for Environmental Advocacy and Research (CLEAR), which tracks anti-environmental groups.

Nichols is the CEO of "crisis communication" firm Nichols Dezenhall. The firm doesn't reveal its clients, but they have reportedly included business pillars such as Audi, Arco and the Society of the Plastics Industry. He's also popular on the nation's lecture circuit.

At a March 7, 2002 conference on "Eco Extremism" co-sponsored by Nichols Dezenhall and the Competitive Enterprise Institute (a "free market" think tank) Nichols delivered a thinly-veiled marketing pitch for his firm, in an assembly room overlooking the U.S. Capitol grounds. Among the well-heeled, attentive audience members were journalists, think tankers and executives from the paper, forestry and plastics industries.

Incidentally, while the conference was open to the public, Barry and other environmentalists were refused admission.....more at:

4. Thank you for this link Catchawave....
Yes, unfortunately it seems the Ubermeisters of Industry are out to destroy the Greens... indeed. They have certainly enjoined the present government as gleeful accomplices in their "crusade" against "terrorism". :puke:

7. Then you'll love THIS one :)

<snip>
FoxNews devoted extensive coverage to congressional testimony earlier this summer by John Lewis, the FBI's Deputy Director for Counterterrorism. Deftly sidestepping border vigilantes, anti-abortion zealots, and white supremacists, Lewis pointed to environmentalists as the great looming internal threat to the security of the nation. Lewis breathlessly claimed that the FBI had documented more than 1,200 acts of eco-terrorism over the last 15 years, inflicting $110 million in property damage-or about the same amount that timber companies steal from the national forests each year. Oddly, executives at the Weyerhaeuser Company--a repeat offender--haven't done any time in Pelican Bay lately.

Once again these hotly reported stories have mostly fizzled out, with the supposed acts of eco-terrorism turning to be insurance scams, disputes between neighbors or angry employees venting their rage with a match and a gallon of gasoline.

9. I Was in Kingman, AZ. Once
Because I almost moved there. Fortier lived there, in the poor part of town. I think I know which part, because he lived in a trailer & there was this huge area on one side of the freeway which was full of trailers. Definitely a poor area. On the other side of the freeway was a golf course & huge, expensive houses. I could see how resentment could build in someone like Fortier, but he made the wrong decision in how to deal with his anger. It amazes me how poor people end up in the militant far-Right when the Right does nothing for poor people. That is the sad thing about people like Fortier & McVeigh. They were so angry, but they got in with the wrong people.
