First Lady's Criticism of Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON (AP) -- First Lady Laura Bush sharply criticized comments by New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, in which Sen. Clinton compared the White House to a "plantation" before a group assembled in Harlem.

"Oh, fiddle dee dee," said Mrs. Bush in a statement released yesterday. "I don't care a snap what a girl like that horrible Hillary Clinton thinks. She's spoiled every party this season with her talk. It's nothing but war, war, war all the time."

A spokesman for Mrs. Bush pointed out the glaring inconsistency in Sen. Clinton's statement, saying that under plantation system, human rights were routinely violated to the benefit of the cotton industry, while in Iraq, human rights are routinely violated to the benefit of the oil industry.

"There really couldn't be a sharper distinction," said the spokesman, who wished to remain anonymous, at least until the checks from Jack Abramoff cleared the bank.

In an unrelated issue, Mrs. Bush warned that Sen. Clinton should immediately end her dalliance with Ashley Wilkes.
