RACHEL MADDOW IS MOVING TO 6pm-8pm EASTERN! |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 06:30 AM by Rosco T.
announcing now...
edit: this is the last hour of Randi and the 1st hour of Majority Report.
Fits in with the rumor that Randi will go to 3 hours.. but does this mean a 2 hour Sam Seder show?
Inquiring minds want to know
and want of Mark Riley?

1. So what's happening with the rest of the lineup? |
|
That shifts or cuts Randi's show by an hour, and all the rumors about Sam Seder and the Majority Report are true...

2. so what is the rest of the daily schedule, |
|
and who is running mornings now that they failed to bring Maron back to NYC?
Stupid ass Goldberg, destroyed a great standard lineup. So is Randi's show losing an hour? Or moved up and Al is leaving and Thom Hartmann replacing him ? All questions. Who's doing 8PM to 10PM?

Mike will have Peter Werbe, but is Randi going to be a best of or a guest host?

I just hope this means the end of the horrible Mark Riley, his show is unlistenable. But, I imagine he will have an expanded show now 6-9 maybe. Back to NPR in the mornings for me.

8. Thom Hartmann! Thom Hartmann! Thom Hartmann! |
|
Here is what I've been planning:
Mark Riley - early morning (6-8 am) Jerry Springer - some right-wingers apparently listen and it is better for them than FOX (8-10 am) Al Franken - (10 am to noon) Thom Hartmann - AT LEAST THREE HOURS in the early afternoon (noon - 3) Randi Rhodes (3-6) Rachel (6-8) Sam Seder (8-10) Mike - Rounds out the night!
Can I get an AMEN!

10. WWRL (1600) 5am to 9am: Sam Greenfield and Armstrong Williams. |
|
That's their slot after September 1. They've had morning drivetime 6 to 10 up to now and the station preserved their show. Try streaming it now.

Remember, they've got a lot of affiliates who take individual shows.
The realignment will be much more subtle than that.

16. I hope they flush Mark Riley - Worst Radio Ever... |
|
I mean it too.
I just find his show so mentally insulting. He makes everything so tedious. His show is SO over scripted that I would be willing to think that anyone could do it, as long as you could read. Most of the info is totally irrelevant to a political talk radio format.
All in all I think that when he was with Marc, I could stand him, on his own it is like listening to Ben Stine drown on about the plight of the common city pigeon. NO ONE CARD!

We need Stephanie Miller on AAR. She and her cohost do the funniest and best produced show out there. Her show is rebroadcast on Sirus in the late evening, otherwise I stream it sometimes.

|
They can't get Miller. Different syndicator.
However, people that have Springer on their local stations and want Miller should contact their local affiliate. It worked in Madison, where the station dropped Phil Hendrie and picked up Malloy due to listener demand.

My usual morning routine on my drive in is to tune into Rachel Maddow in the morning for a bit to catch up, and a bit of Randi on the drive home. I doubt i'll be able to catch either of them now :(

25. Wonder what's going to happen with the schedule as a whole |
|
It sounds like Randi will go down to three hours. Probably a good thing, since a four hour talk show (without sidekicks) is pretty grueling.
I would assume Rachel will be 6-8 ET, followed by Sam 8-10 ET, then Malloy at the usual time. Or Sam gets the boot and Malloy goes on two hours earlier. I'm thinking it will be less jarring to the individual affiliates if they just have Sam do 8-10.
That leaves mornings. Granted, anything pre-9 ET is morning drive only for the Eastern and Central time zones. On the west coast, the morning shift is in the overnight hours. Are they dumping morning drive? This would be a little risky, since many stations have been running AAR mornings (while quite a few go local). I do know that Bill Press is syndicated by Jones in the 6a-9a ET slot, so that at least leaves stations an option to fill mornings. I doubt Maron would come back.
Leaving the spot blank, even though their NY station has other plans for mornings, would be a mistake, IMO. They've gotta put something substantial there.
Or maybe they've got another surprise for morning drive. Laura Flanders?

Sam will be off next week and said that what happens after that, happens. It almost sounds like nobody knows what is going on. Not a very professional way to run AAR. Changes get made on all networks, but there usually isn't on air talk by the hosts of an uncertain future. Who the heck is running the place? They are doing a lousy and unprofessional job. Don't they firm up their schedule and then make announcements? You hear a lot of speculation in the industry that AAR is going down the tubes. No wonder.
They need Rachel, Randi, Mike, Thom, and Stephanie. Just my opinion.

He knows but won't tell. Or they aren't firm on what they're doing. My guess is that Sam will stay on 8-10PM, and they do something else for mornings (assuming Riley is gone).
Keep in mind too that in the radio business, sometimes people don't find out their job status until the last minute.
I do know that, as far as affiliate clearances, 'Majority Report' is probably AAR's weakest show.
BTW: Stephanie doesn't work for AAR. She's just on a lot of AAR affiliates.

I enjoy listening to Rachel. Looking forward to a new schedule. But I must be able to listen to Mike Malloy at the right time. I would really like for Thom Hartman to be on in the morning (noon Eastern time) - maybe he and Al could divide up the time. Al will begin his run for the Senate soon, I believe, and I hope he gets the seat!

I don't think Al would want to get up that early, though.
I have a feeling that he is going to have to bow out for his Senate race fairly soon.
