Should America declare a War on Lightning? |
|
Mathmatically the odds are greater that the average American will be struck by lightning than by terrorists. America is groveling in fear over terrorism but not lightning, Why?????Americans are willing to give up their Constitution because Bush* told them they have to over something that probably will never effect them in any real meaningful way, Why???? Lightning is the true culpret so let's have us a War on Lightning and the decider can still be Commander in Chief and strut around in a military uniform..only we won't be killing women and children..

5. We need a war on the automobile |
|
And a war on smoking.
A war on gangs would give the Bushco even better excuses for wiretapping Americans without warrant. Now they have to at least allege there is a foreigner involved.

Not defending Bush's BS "War on Terror," just pointing out the problem in your comparison.
The chances of being struck by lightning are going to remain reasonable constant no matter what we do. You can minimize the risks, or ignore the risks and increase your odds, but only be a little--the final results depend more on natural forces than us.
Not true of terrorism, or whatever we choose to label terrorism at any given time. These are attacks by humans. The likelihood of being killed by a terrorist can go up dramatically or decline dramatically based on circumstances, such as how angry we are making people, how easy it is for someone to carry off an attack, etc. In other words, the fact that we have intelligence services intercepting most terror attacks (going back to the 80s) decreases the odds of terror attacks greatly. Were we to remove all airport security, all intelligence, all investigation of possible threats (and I'm not saying anyone is calling for that), the odds of us being struck by terrorists could go up dramatically.
BushCo is using threats of terrorism as a political tool, no question, and Bush's "War on Terror" is a thinly disguised power grab, and a weak excuse for various glamor wars BushCo wants. He's blowing arrests out of proportion. But terror attacks would go up if we weren't making efforts to stop them. Lightning strikes are going to remain pretty constant.

10. Well if you use logic you become unAmerican |
|
Using your logic though we could do away with Lightning Rods and see if the death rates from lightning go up or not. It is also under our control somewhat......

17. Yeah, I have that problem a lot. |
|
Removing lightning rods wouldn't change the frequency of lightning strikes, just the location.

Can we declare War On Strong Winds while we are at it? I mean we could sneak a clause in there to bring quite a few right wingnuts to justice too, while we are at it. All that hot air coming out of their mouths is adding to the global warming problem.
