Where will your senator will be when it's time to filibuster Alito?
I'm confident mine, Bill Nelson who almost always goes along with the administration will be right there in Washington, DC with a YES vote for Alito.

At least I could not vehemently hate him once in a while.

11. Really

We vote in Louisiana but live in Texas, why can't we get a conservative Democrat elected! I'd much rather that than what we have here now.

screaming for the godless democrats to shut up and sit down. I have not gotten one single response from them about Alito, not even acknowledgment that I have contacted them.

5. Didn't he recently say he was leaning towards a no vote on Alito?
I hope you have called his office and asked him to support a filibuster.

If he doesn't hear from Dems in the state, then what can we expect?

Tell you friends and neighbors to call also .

Help them call.

We have seen a MAJOR shift on this with many consevative Democratic Senators announcing their opposition to Alito. Hey, my State's Max Baucas is voting no. And that's surprising.

35.  Sen. Nelson voices concerns on Alito

<snip>
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson emerged from a private meeting with Judge Samuel Alito on Wednesday, saying he has concerns with some of the positions expressed by President Bush's Supreme Court nominee.
Nelson, who voted to confirm Chief Justice John Roberts, remained mum as to whether he would vote for Alito, but he said through a spokesman that he had worries about some of Alito's answers ``on matters

7. I am hoping they will be standing up and declaring a filibuster

I called them, I faxed them, I emailed them, I forwarded all the actions to EVERYONE I know...

I am hoping that we can get enough opposition to filibuster....

Kennedy and Kerry....

I put little stock in Kerry, but Kennedy I think might push it through...and Kerry is VERY close to Kennedy so he might follow suit.

We shall see.

FILLIBUSTER FRIDAY - Call & tell them to FILIBUSTER, today!

who will push a filibuster if Reid does not want one (as it seems to be the case). All you hear right now is that they are counting the votes. Does that mean that they will not try if they dont have the numbers?

29. It only takes one senator to filibuster
Quote: "a Senator who seeks recognition usually has a right to the floor if no other Senator is speaking, and then may speak for as long as he or she wishes."

http://www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/RL30360.pdf

So who's got any cahones left anymore? I guess Senator Byrd's age is a factor now or he'd be right in there. He's a dying breed unfortunately, a fighter.

36. Has he said how he would vote? Remember he voted for Roberts.
Also, even if it takes only one person to object to the cloture of the vote (the most likely way to block the nomination), the issue is to know who is going to do that IF Reid does not agree (and I doubt it will be Byrd. Remember he is among the 14 who signed the agreement).

He did vote for him as I researched after my shocked reply. I knew it was a given that Bill Nelson (my senator) and Lieberman would and did vote but Byrd slipped by me. I could have sworn I heard sound bites of his objections to Roberts. Maybe my brain is slipping with my age.
Thanks for the info.

14. If there is a filibuster, mine will vote for it.
The issue that is more important is whether somebody will make the filibuster happen against Reid's wishes, as it is clear that Reid does not want a filibuster that would fail.

22. The main problem is a no vote won't really count for anything...
...being the minority. It's an easy way out in my opinion. If they vote no but don't put up a fight, what good is it except only to say to voters next time around "hey, I voted against him, check my record".

Conrad Burns would probably cross party lines and vote for filibuster if he was bribed enough.
Max Baucus will vote filibuster if it has enough support.

21. My senator?
I wish I had the money to buy them. "Your" senator, "my" senator, I love it. Still makes it sound as if they represent "the people". Sounds as if you could go up and talk to them, have a real conversation. They might even take what you have to say into some consideration.

23. Hard to say. Cantwell???? Murray voted yes for Roberts.
A reversal of roles on the Roberts vote. DLC/pro-war Cantwell voted against Roberts. Anti-war, usually reliable Murray voted for.

I've already written Cantwell off as a useless panderer. Murray heard from me about her vote. If she doesn't support a filibuster, I'll be forced to vote Green.
