Harris: 9 officials on flier, none at rally - lied about place rally held
August 18, 2006

No-shows batter beleaguered Harris

Of 9 officials on her flier, none attend an Orlando rally. She also revises an online list of supporters.

Jim Stratton
Sentinel Staff Writer
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/state/orl-harris1806aug18,0,5885765.story?coll=orl-news-headlines-state

August 18, 2006 -- Katherine Harris' attempt to boost her campaign with a series of high-profile endorsements wilted Thursday when none of the officials appeared at her campaign rally and one of them said Harris wrongly included him on her list of supporters.

None of the nine officials listed on her event flier appeared, leaving Harris on her own to address a group of about 40 supporters, reporters and campaign-staff members.

Harris spoke in an airplane hangar that seemed to highlight the modest size of the crowd. She said a last-minute location change -- required because a tree fell on the hangar where the event was supposed to be held -- kept crowd numbers down.

Airport officials, however, said no hangar had been damaged by a tree and that the rally was in the hangar that had been originally booked.

Harris spoke for 10 minutes, saying she is the only candidate with the conservative credentials to defeat Nelson. When she finished, red, white and blue balloons dropped onto an empty stage, rendered unnecessary by the sparse crowd.

I was under the impression that trees around airports are as rare as snakes on planes.

116. I wonder who their trigger man would be.
It reminds me of a Reagan-era bit in the National Lampoon -- a 'Tales of the Crypt' parody called 'Tales of the Rhenquist Court.' In their attempt to halt school desegregation, Rhenquist orders gangster Scalia to shoot out the tires on a bus carrying Black kids to school. Then, when the kids ask how they're supposed to get home, O'Connor advises them, "link arms and walk -- it got your kind to Selma...."

Anyway...my vote is for Scalia. Cheney might be a better shot, but he's too highly placed.

Dang, I miss the Lampoon.

130. Take it easy on Kate.
It's not like she has a lot of staff most of the time!

Also not many male media go to her events, being afraid of getting hit on.

So I'm guessing she probably had 20 to 25 supporters, that's enough to justify spending millions of Daddy's money on a Senate campaign.

ALMOST, but not quite. She is one SERIOUSLY deluded woman right now and in my opinion, could use some professional psychiatric help. If she seriously believes the things she's saying she's become unbalanced. She made her bed though. She laid down with the Bush dogs and she got a serious case of fleas because of it.
I'd love to see her become unbalanced enough, vindictive enough and pissed off enough, to write a tell-all about her campaign 2000 activities. She'd never live to see the next sunrise if she did though. POOR KATHERINE!

28. It was a canker-filled terrorist tree!
>> Four years ago, as the state labored to eradicate citrus canker by destroying trees, officials rejected other disease-fighting techniques, saying unproven methods would waste precious time and resources.

But for more than six months, the state, at the behest of then-Secretary of State Katherine Harris, did pursue one alternative method — a very alternative method.

Researchers worked with a rabbi and a cardiologist to test "Celestial Drops," promoted as a canker inhibitor because of its "improved fractal design," "infinite levels of order" and "high energy and low entropy."

But the cure proved useless against canker. That's because it was water — possibly, mystically blessed water.

The "product is a hoax and not based on any credible known science," the state's chief of entomology, nematology and plant pathology wrote to agriculture officials and fellow scientists after testing Celestial Drops in October 2001.<<

Katherine Harris Reveals Indiana Terror Plot

Officials in Indiana and Washington say they're dumbfounded by a statement U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris of Florida made about a terrorist plot to blow up a power grid in Indiana.>snip<

A staff member of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which oversees the nation's intelligence operations, said he had heard of no such plot.

And Indiana officials in the county where the power grid is located were at a loss to explain where the information originated.

In an interview Tuesday, Harris would not reveal the name of the mayor who told her about the threat or provide further details.<<

I saw a story about it on TV. It was some kind of function the'd put together for her campaign. I'm not kidding you.

EDIT...here's the story!

Marsupial Madness: Politicians seek votes at Possum fest
BILL KACZOR
Associated Press

WAUSAU, Fla. - Charlie Crist enthusiastically jabbed a plastic fork into the brown stringy meat on his plate alongside sweet potatoes and greens. He put some into his mouth, winced as he took his first chew, then swallowed and proclaimed it was "great."

Florida's attorney general, a Republican candidate for governor, got his first taste of marsupial Saturday at the Wausau Possum Festival that annually attracts more politicians than possums to this tiny Florida Panhandle town.

"It's delicious, a little greasy but good," Crist said. "It tastes like possum - like nothing I've ever had in my life."

Crist and his main opponent for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher, skipped the possum parade down Wausau's main street - State Road 77 - and headed directly for the community center, the Possum Palace, for the main event: a possum auction. MORE...

Frank Zappa - Yo' Mama Lyrics
Maybe you should stay with yo' mama
She could do your laundry 'n' cook for you
Maybe you should stay with yo' mama
You're really kinda stupid 'n' ugly too
(verse repeats)

You ain't really made for bein' out in the street
Ain't much hope for a fool like you
'Cause if you play the game, you will get beat

Maybe you should stay with yo' mama
She could do your laundry 'n' cook for you
Maybe you should stay with yo' mama
You're really kinda stupid 'n ugly too
And
You should never smoke in pajamas
You might start a fire 'n' burn yer face
Maybe you'll return to Managua
You could go unnoticed in such a place

13. OK, dammit; I'm almost starting to pity this woman.
Almost.

She's bound and determined to auger her campaign deep into the ground and, with each appearance she makes, it gets more and more pathetic.

Oh, it's still funny, but it's starting to get sad, and I'm pissed that I almost feel sorry for her.

Almost.

Keep sending her all those encouraging notes, telling her how you and all your friends can't wait to vote her in and that commie Nelson out. I want this bitch homeless after she gets 21 percent of the vote and depresses the GOP vote statewide. And my offer to find her a grocery cart is still on the table. She's already got the bag lady look; let's help make the finances match.

21. The problem with liberals
When one of these slime buckets self destructs, we just can't muster up the glee that we always thought would accompany the crash and burn. I can't say I'm exactly at the pity stage, and it sure is worthy of a snicker or two, but I'm just not lovin' it like I thought I would. Damn stupid empathetic nature, grrr.

Remember, many of these Republicans don't give a flying frog whether someone's in pain or not; they only look out for number one.

Oh, we may gloat for a bit, but when they resemble a back-broken squirrel in the middle of the road? What are the choices?

<1> Take the poor thing to a vet
<2> Give it a coup-de-grace, real quick, so no suffering
<3> Squish it under your car's wheels, laughing like a maniac

Guess which one Bush-and-Co would do, if the tables were turned on us?

43. I personally have lots of empathy for people who actually suffer.
Failing to win an election to the U.S. Senate cannot be remotely called suffering in any way, shape or form. Portraying it as such, when millions and millions are suffering hardships and privations at the hands of this government (OUR government!), is hyperbole to the point of delusion.

"there is always the cynical curmudgeon segment who purged themselves of all unnecessary empathetic emotions eons ago... which isn't a criticism or a compliment.. curmudgeons can be delightful."??

Well, there is the self-righteous moralist segment who purged themselves of all unnecessary intellectual integrity eons ago... which isn't a criticism or a compliment.. moralists can be delightful!

46. Hence the word "unnecessary"
are you seriously trying to tell me you're a "carry the weight of the world on your shoulders" personality type? Didn't think so. I didn't say you were void of empathy, I said it doesn't surprise me that you wouldn't be bothered with "unnecessary" empathy for Katherine Harris - it's a curse/blessing of the curmudgeon, which I would think you would know you are and wear it proudly. Still, many liberals do have an over-developed sense of responsibilty character trait - which isn't a criticism or compliment either. Just an "is". From my point of view.

There are plenty of people for me to feel sorry for, people whose problems are not of their own making and who have no means to alleviate their sadness, grief, misery, poverty, illness, hopelessness.

I have not one speck of pity for Katherine Harris, none, zip, zilch, nada, ningún pedazo. I am delighted, indeed overjoyed to see her the butt of jokes, the focus of frivolity, the locus of levity, the height of hilarity and the depth of derision. She's worked hard to get to this point, she's earned every epithet tossed her way, she deserves every scintilla of scorn heaped on her aquanetted, L'Orealed head.

this woman's thoughts is not based in reality. She is truly mentally ill.

The Bush administraiton shuns her because they see themselves in her. She believes every lie she tells. Because she got away with stealing the election for George, she thinks she can lie her way through this election.

I just hope she keeps in the game, not that I think Nelson is such a great senator, but like gazing upon a bad car accident, it will be fun to watch her crash and burn. That may be cruel, but dammit, she deserves it.

Complete with red, white, and blue balloons, too.

I predict she'll be throwing other kinds of parties in the future:

- Denial

- Loser

- Pity

Then she will drop off the face of the Earth, and cease to exist for most of the population. She's already done enough damage, being forced into the world of a has-been is better than she deserves, but will likely amount to personal torture for Harris.

Maybe because she typifies what the RW has devolved into? Liars, hypocrites, arrogant weasles, greedy, self centered, delusional jerks. Add your own attributes of the new RW.

Is she the object of the disgust and loathing that many feel toward the RW Fascist Assholes that are screwing up America and causing misery for millions here and around the world?

70. Maybe Harris IS the Weapon of RongWing Destruction!
That got me to thinking: What if Katherine Harris is trying to do for the Republicans, what Lieberman is doing for the Democrats?

I mean, take a lookie here:

(snip)

Despite her problems, Harris remains popular with many conservative voters who think she is being pilloried by what she calls the "liberal media." And Harris has lined up a number of endorsements, including those of U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez and U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Winter Park.

Mica, who was among those officials missing from Thursday's rally, called Harris "a dynamo" and a "great representative."

Not everyone backing Harris is so upbeat.

This week, as Harris made the rounds at a Winter Park political gathering, U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney said he continues to back her -- but he does so primarily out of a sense of duty.

"I endorsed Congresswoman Harris a year ago," Feeney said. "I made a commitment, and I'm going to live up to that commitment."

Feeney was then asked why he offered such a tepid endorsement.

"I won't disclose publicly what I said to Katherine privately," he said. "But that notwithstanding, she decided to run."

(paste)

Maybe not insanity, then? Revenge? A little sabotage?

I find it hard to believe that she is THAT insane. Not if she rigged an election.

I can't feel sorry for her thanks to the 2000 fiasco. I live in Tallahassee and couldn't go near downtown for weeks because newspeople were walking up to locals at the downtown farmer's market and such and asking questions like, "How does it feel to be the laughingstock of the world?" as if it was our fault!

I think she should save what's left of her inheritance and use it to hire a good lawyer who can tell her if she can get immunity for ratting out the people who put her up to breaking the law as our secretary of state. She doesn't have a chance against Nelson.

73. I can almost feel sorry for her.
It's like giving a party and inviting all your closest friends -- and then none of them show up. The carpets have been vacuumed, the chips and dip have all been laid out on the table, and you sit there, twiddling your thumbs and glancing at the clock until it finally dawns on you that they're not coming. The bottles of soda sit in the cooler, getting warm. The munchies, carefully prepared, begin to go limp. You look around and wonder what the room would look like with people in it. You catch a small tear in the corner of your eye, and wipe it away, before finally going to bed.

And then I remember my son in Iraq.

And then I remember how she was instrumental in placing that ignorant, arrogant, swaggering sack of rancid monkey nuts in the White House.

And then I don't feel sorry anymore.

I think that to feel sorry for Katherine Harris, one would have to have some history a of similar type venture, where there was no chance and I mean no chance whatsoever of winning. There has to be some basis for identification. In this history, regardless, of the circumstances, one ventures forth, bungling all the way, and the situation goes from bad to worse.

Now who does stuff like that? Answer: people who are in denial. This woman is off in her own fairyland and she probably has been all her life. And the consequences? I need not point them out, as Miss Chybil has already done so.

What the hell kind of system puts people like her, bush, and cheney in positions that determine the fates of millions of decent people (but also millions of apathetic assholes who can't be bothered to vote)? If it's this bad (and it is), the entire system should go down, 100%.

109. She *has* to have mental problems.
I don't know why I continue to be surprised at the shit she says and does, but only a truly deluded, mentally ill person would continue to say and do these things.

110. As much of a train wreck as her campaign is...
I'd still bang her...

I know that's gonna upset a few breakfasts, but really, I'll school her on Bush while she takes some hot Australian snag. Trust me.

138. No, I just believe in letting him live by experience.
But at any rate; You're holding her down, from behind, with a handful of hair, whispering in her ear "You wanna get fucked like you fucked Florida, don't you, you dirty slut".

It's a porn film waiting to happen.

123. Sweet, sweet schadenfreude.
I really don't feel sorry for Harris in the slightest. She's brought this entirely upon herself by running an extremely bad campaign, plus she was part of the mechanism that gave us Pr. Bush. That's why I, for one, am not filled with sympathy but rather sweet, sweet schadenfreude. :smoke:

128. She has the Tom Delay syndrome
Living in Florida gives me a chance to enjoy "The Katherine Harris Show" every day!

Ms. Demagogue claims, and I'm not making this up, that the Repuke establishment opposes her because she's a TRUE CHRISTIAN. Like Tom Delay, who blamed his downfall on the "LIBBBERALLL anti-Christian" media, Katherine Harris appeals to the "Christians are VICTIMS"-crowd. That's her base. It's also Tom Delay's base, and now, it's Shrub's base as well.

They are truly the American Taliban.

136. absolutely!
That's what I was wondering, too...

I work near an airport and I can see the hangars from my office - a tree that was tall enough to fall and squash a hangar roof would have to be a California Redwood or something similar.

135. The pictures from this story are priceless!
I am actually have number 2 framed and laugh at it all the way through elections while I throw darts at another copy posted on my porch.

A tree on a fallen hanger and having to move your "fund raiser" = $4800.00
The amount money that that Harris had to pay just to put butts in the hangar = $12,000,000,000,000.00
The price of seeing her tired and wrinkled face looking like a rat on the Titanic =
PRICELESS

137. You know what Katherine Harris ought to do?
She's been stabbed in the back by the party she helped install. She has zero chance of winning this election, so all she can really do is damage the people who destroyed her.

She should come out and say, "I helped rig the 2000 election for GW Bush and this is how they repay me?!"

:)

140. I think that they have to much on her.........
For her to even consider coming out against them. Whether its on her, her family, her money, who knows maybe all three or more for her to consider even talking. I would say that I am surprised she is not spitting blood from biting her tongue so hard, but of course we already know she has a forked tongue.
