The red shirts on Fridays thing annoys me
There are a handful of people at my company who are wearing red on Fridays now, and from what I understand it means (on the surface) that they "support the troops". What it really means is that they self-identify as people who are too stupid to know why our troops were sent to Iraq, or who attacked us on 9/11, or that government officials who break the law belong in jail.

They're like a smug little club of fundies who are totally fact-resistant. The company has contracts with the DOD, so anything the DOD does must be wonderful, right? Never question authority.

And there I am with my bumper sticker: "Defend America - Impeach Bush"

I guess I jes don luv Murika nuff.

1. Well, Iraq is helping to fund your company. What do you think
the company is going to do, not support the shirts that are on their backs?

5. the company isn't promoting this

and I have the feeling that a couple of the higher ups like my bumper sticker (though they could never do it).

I'm not against having a Department of Defense, or having engines on the ships in our Navy. I am against the way our Defense Department is being run right now.

2. In the next couple of weeks, we'll be wearing
a lot of red shirts on Fridays here in Kansas City to support our Chiefs!

Go Chiefs!

to the "red shirters".

Then ask them when did the Russkie/Commie color become the color for US Patriots? That should get their blood boiling.

Red Shirt Thursday is a support-the-union sign in my company.

7. the "red" must represent all the blood wasted for lies
just saying...cause it for damn sure doesn't do anything to support the troops
Yes, I know those who wear red shirts don't mean it that way...but I can't think of those "red" shirts without thinking that way

8. I just think it's kind of dumb....
to support the troops by wearing a red shirt.

I mean from a trekkie POV, are they saying that they identify with the troops who are red shirts? Or are they saying they themselves are red shirts?

Tsk tsk... the poor red shirts...

9. Let me ask you a question...
Are there a corollary bunch of you who are the of opposite mind to this crew?

Tell you what, why don't you all start wearing blue shirts on Friday? You know, just to see what happens.

11. there are other liberals/dems
but I am the only one who is "out of the closet"... my supervisor is leftie and I can talk to him, but he shies away from talking politics with anyone else at the company. People know that I am working on a political campaign, so they grant me a little space for that. But the other Dems act like they are "in the closet". They talk to me because I am "out".

We do have a lot of ex-military working at the company, but from talking to a few of them they are very disappointed in what is happening with the military now, though they don't talk about it in political terms. They're just less proud of it than they used to be.

Actually I did wear blue today. Its kinda silly.

26. OK, so its a little silly.
But I've never really believed in that old chestnut of "not stooping to their level." I prefer to think of it as speaking to someone in their own language.

13. The first I heard of it, it was a lefty thing!
The idea was that by wearing red on Friday you were showing resistance against *, and it was patterned after a resistance group in WWII. Somehow the RWers grabbed onto it and flipped the meaning around.

15. How ironic...
...I can't decide whether to go with a "waving a bloody shirt" theme, or unleashing my inner Trekkie and reminding people what being a "redshirt" used to mean for that show.
