Get Ready For Another Wave Of Homeless Vets
But what bothers him are the phone calls he's been getting lately—four or five a week—about Iraq or Afghanistan vets who have no place to stay. None live at New Era yet; they have to go through the city shelter system first. But the fact that they are out there, just as he once was, pisses him off. "I can't see a young kid going through what I went through," he says.

To local vets groups, the city's efforts don't pass muster. "Supporting the troops is more than a slogan. Supporting the troops is putting words into action," says Joe Bello, a Navy vet from the Gulf War era. A property tax break only helps if you can afford to buy a house, Bello points out. Job preferences only assist those in a position to seek such jobs. And a little outreach to returning veterans now, the critics say, could save this generation of vets from having to use city-funded shelters later.

5. "Support the troops" my ass...
Wonder if those folks sporting their little
yellow ribbons would be willing to
let a vet stay in their guest room?
I sincerely doubt it...

Fucking hypocrites.

6. We need to reclaim money Halliburton took via no bid contracts,
and start a fund for housing these vets. That is the biggest slush fund that I know of that doesn't belong to hallibuton, but to these vets.

8. We still have Viet Nam vets in that sorry fucking boat.
When the bullets stop, so does the support.

No shit blowing up on the news? Forget about it.

And forget about them.

Oh .... I know .... let's cut VA funding, too.

Just to make sure it hurts even more.

When has ANY republican supported the troops? Even the vaunted 'pro military' St Ronnie just spent lots on flashy hardware. Apart from that, he supported them just like bushco does.

DEMs are who supports them.

9. I was at the Vietnam Memorial today.
Really. I was.

And all I could think about, aside from the sacrifices these heroes made, was about our men and women in harm's way in Iraq.

And I wondered, how many names....how many homeless....how many maimed.....

And I asked myself why is it we don't seem to learn from history.

11. to BushCo, military personnel are nothing more than . . .
consummable supplies -- much like bullets or paper clips . . . many of those called up from the Reserves, the National Guard, and the IRR will end up losing their health, their jobs or businesses, their homes, even their families . . . as BushCo cuts their benefits and their health care . . .

this country used to honor its veterans . . . today, they're just disposable annoyances . . .
