What does Pro-Life mean to you?
For me it means:

Making Health Care a RIGHT for all citizens and having a country in which nobody has to choose between medicine and food, among other things.

What does it mean to you?

1. Quality of Life For All
From birth to death the country, state and everyone in between should strive to make sure no one goes hungry,is forced to go without medical care, a place to live their entire lives. Kids should not be part of black hole in the foster system. Seniors should not have to be forced to live with family members who are more concerned to get that S.S. check then caring for their aging family member. At no time should people be forced to dumpster dive for dinner nor skip meals to pay for rent or medicines. Everyone should have the right to live in an area safe enough to sit on the front porch or take a walk. This should not be reserved for thr wealthy!! Life should be respected by all and for all.

12. Finally, someone caring about the aged and the poor!
I get so tired of there being threads only about the war, the war, the war. It's one issue, a major one, but hardly the only major issue facing this nation. We Dems need to go back to our roots and care about the needy. Dems need to focus on the fact that one reason the war is so wrong is that it takes money away from the needy, education, and so much more on our country.

We need to save American lives, and I don't mean just those of soldiers. We need to save people from dying because they can't afford a window air-conditioner in record heat...we need to save people from dying because they can't afford their meds...we need to save children from dying of entirely preventable illnesses.

And now, Bush is trying to force military families to get their meds by mail-order only (from a pharmacy owned by his cronies, no doubt), and forbid them to use their local pharmacies.

But does anyone mention this? There's lots of talk about the enlisted men and women, but does anyone think of how this will affect their families?

These are the issues that make me sad...because nobody even cares.

4. For me it means
Consistent life ethics, no death penalty, no sending young people off to die in needless wars, no nuclear arsenals hanging over our heads. It means that all human life is sacred.

5. Doublespeak.
In the context that it's used to take a woman's right to make decisions regarding her own body away from her, the words are meaningless. In the reproductive sense, if you are pro-life then you must be concerned about every egg and every sperm that is discarded as well.

7. For those who call themselves "Pro-Life" it means assuming...
...moral superiority because they care more about reproductive cells, than they care about persons.

8. FDR had something to say about this:
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 11:46 PM by rasputin1952
...

"The basic things expected by our people of their political
and economic systems are simple. They are :
Equality of opportunity for youth and for others.
Jobs for those who can work.
Security for those who need it.
The ending of special privilege for the few.
The preservation of civil liberties for all.
The enjoyment of the fruits of scientific progress in a
wider and constantly rising standard of living.
These are the simple, the basic things that must never be
lost sight of in the turmoil and unbelievable complexity of
our modern world. The inner and abiding straight of our
economic and political systems is dependent upon the degree
to which they fulfill these expectations.

If the congress maintains these principles the voters,
putting patriotism ahead pocketbooks, will give you their
applause.
In the future days which we seek to make secure, we look
forward to a world founded upon four essential human
freedoms.
The first is freedom of speech and expression --everywhere
in the world.

The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his
own way-- everywhere in the world.
The third is freedom from want, which, translated into world
terms, means economic understandings which will secure to
every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants
--everywhere in the world.

The fourth is freedom from fear, which, translated into
world terms, means a world-wide reduction of armaments to
such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation
will be in a position to commit an act of physical
aggression against any neighbor --anywhere in the world...."

THE FOUR FREEDOMS
delivered by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, on January 6, 1941

11. Pro-Life = Against Wars based on lies and deception.
Pro-Life is Against the Death Sentence, because too many innocent have died.

Pro-Life is Adoption for Same-Sex Couples, because too many of our kids around the world don't know what it's liked to be loved.

Pro-Life is for rescuing Hundreds of Thousands of People and their Pets from a Category 5 Hurricane, because ignoring them is callous and inhumane.

Pro-Life is for Family Values and for Same-Sex Couples to Marry and Enjoy the Same Rights as Any American, because they are just as equal as any other American.

Pro-Life is for a Living Wage, because the Minimum Wage hasn't changed in over ten years. Yet rents, mortgages, cost of living...rise exponentially.

Pro-Life is for Universal Health Care, because corporate for-profit health care has been a complete failure for most of us.

13. Means Taking A Decision Of Abortion As Seriously As Possible And
finding first if there are any possible ways they could figure out how to make it work out ok if the choice was made to carry baby to term, and only then consider having it aborted. It also means to educate people and implement programs to assist with what's necessary so that unwanted pregancies don't occur in the first place.
