20 January 2006

PESHAWAR - Thousands of Pakistanis on Friday protested against a US air strike targeting Al-Qaeda leaders, burning effigies of US President George Bush and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.

Around 2,000 demonstrators marched through the troubled tribal town of Wana and more than 1,000 led by hardliners in the northwestern city of Peshawar chanted “We are ready to support Osama and Zawahiri”, police and witnesses said.

“Musharraf cannot protect the country because he is protecting American interests,” Abdul Ghaffar, a leader of the Muttahid Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) religious alliance, told the rally in central Peshawar.

Protest leaders signed a petition calling on the government to shut down the US consulate in Peshawar as activists torched dummies of Bush and Musharraf.

1. Those durn "unexpected consequences" again.
If nothing else the CIA and their PNAC masters can be cited (again) for their usual ineptness at "spreading democracy" aka - colonialism.

How secure is the Iron Rule of Musharraf?
Who is keeping their little eye on the nukes in the Pakistani arsenal?

4. I wonder if we have people in their loop to keep those nukes grounded
Seems to me Mushy could go out as quickly as he came in.
His replacement, in the case of a grass root coup, is just about guaranteed to be a US hater.
