NO Evidence Found Against "Alleged" London "Terror Mastermind"
Pakistanis find no evidence against ‘terror mastermind’
By GLEN OWEN

22:46pm 19th August 2006

The Briton alleged to be the ‘mastermind’ behind the airline terror plot could be innocent of any significant involvement, sources close to the investigation claim.

Rashid Rauf, whose detention in Pakistan was the trigger for the arrest of 23 suspects in Britain, has been accused of taking orders from Al Qaeda’s ‘No3’ in Afghanistan and sending money back to the UK to allow the alleged bombers to buy plane tickets.

But after two weeks of interrogation, an inch-by-inch search of his house and analysis of his home computer, officials are now saying that his extradition is ‘a way down the track’ if it happens at all.

...............

Analysts suspect Pakistani authorities exaggerated Rauf’s role to appear ‘tough on terrorism’ and impress Britain and America.

I maintain that this thing was all PR. It was a small thing blown out of proportion for the sake of politics.

So far, feel vindicated.

19. They'll never admit to being wrong in criticizing doubters....
... just like the truthout debacle.

I still recall someone with the position (almost a quote) "I have no reason to believe that the administration's claims are false".

Such a claim is preposterous on its face - and even more so in light of the intervening week or two.

26. it's amusing to observe factions on DU mock the admin and MSM
until they report something that agrees with their worldview. suddenly, this same admin and MSM attain instant credibility, and those the still doubt are the ones to be mocked. happens every time.

28. It's amusing to see that on a thread sourced from the Daily Mail
which is a right wing tabloid, whose stories are regularly discounted here when it suits us. But now it as attained its own "instant credibility". I guess this story fits in with a worldview too.

32. It's amusing how some on DU can't distinguish between the message and
the messenger.
And no, not the MSM nor the govt do get any more credibility than they already had on those occasions were some truth comes out.
How does anyone know what's true and what's not? Not listening only to the MSM is a good start.

5. We are entering the unravelling phase of this terra plot.
At this development it becomes clear to those still capable of critical thinking that the great gatorade bomb plot of 06 has serious problems and seems to be more about the political fortunes of the neocons and less about public safety.

The damage has been done. The Great Fear has been reintroduced for the fall campaign. Most people will not be able to process the information that is slowly leaking out and will assume that JonBenet's killer really was a muslim terraist mastermind planting gatorade bombs while preying on small girls. Ned Lamont.

We are bombarded by non sequitor bullshit.

8. Warren, I think it was more than being about gatorade bombs.
I think it was about spreading fear and making it easier for the "authorities" to justify why they should take more liberties away. It is amazing to me how the UK seems to be mimicking the US so much. They want to take away people's freedom under the guise of protecting them just like they are doing here.

Non sequitor bullshit it is!

31. Well put, but this is closer to a cover story for the unraveling
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 08:57 AM by lostnfound
Conservative readers of the Daily Mail who happen to hear any details of the unraveling, and who might otherwise start having seeds of doubts in their brains, will be able to rest easy by believing that Pakistan thought this stuff up on its own.. Post #15 by Nashville Brook says it well:

Pakistan exaggerates to *impress* ?? Britain et US... phffft.

9. I watched "Wag the Dog" last night
Those that haven't seen it should.

The more people that wake up from their "Matrix" slumber and start to realize that "events" are use for manipulation by the corporate media sector and by the government and is to sell their product to maintain control of the public's attention span on what they consider to be important or to either take the emphasis off of a problem in which to incite fear, terror, sympathy or any other emotion they want to stir up the better off we will be.

I am and was dubious of the timing, let alone the facts of the Jon Benet Ramsey story, the Terri Schiavo story, this story or most of the stories coming out of the Corporate/Repulican neo-con complex.

13. Story Never Did Pass The Smell Test
As soon as the news came out detailing wire transfers of money I posted that key elements of this story didn't pass the smell test and pointed to the money transfer as one such key element. And this was before it was pointed out that Bush pushed Blair into making the arrests before British authorities were ready to move.

It also smelled that the arrests were announced less than 48 hours after Lamont upset Lieberman in Connecticut. Lieberman at first jumped all over this story as proof that he has been right only to do a complete reversal and now call for Rumsfeld to resign. Now that is enough to cause whiplash.

Crying wolf hasn't help Bush in the polls this time around but it has oddly helped Lieberman. That probably will go south in a hurry, hence Lieberman's sudden switch regarding Rumsfeld.

23. I suspected this so I made this Flash about LIEberman and the "plot"
Here's my latest work all about Joe LIEberman's ridiculous run as a "Party of One", which reminds me of "Army of One" (which gives ME a mental image of a guy stuck under fire in a foxhole, looking around and saying, "WHERE the hell IS EVERYBODY!!") :) -- Makes about as much sense in a marketing vein. Party of One, Translates into "Party of NONE" when it involved LIEberman, might as well be saying, "Party of ME", eh?

This flash also incorporates the fact that the Terror Lockdown on Liquids, etc came so close on the heels of Joe's Smackdown by Lamont as to not be considered credible - even today they are confirming that people will walk FREE because they don't have the evidence to hold them, let alone that there were NO Explosives in their possession, they hadn't even made reservations, etc, etc..

Meanwhile they talk about charging a PREGNANT woman for having some water, and a face wipe - this flash addresses those concerns as well, the fact that WE are being used as PUPPETS in a The Politics of Terror.

Remember, a republican said they'd ride this last nonThreat all the way into November. Let's prove them wrong.. Let's VOTE for Lamont, as we all know this last Primary was a referendum on Bush and his faked "war". The Nerve of LIEberman to shit all over the Democrats. It's like using a girlfriend to get you through medical school and then snatching up the Trophy Wife once you've graduated. How can we ever trust this Puppet again?

One of my best Flash works ever, and to the Tune of "Masters of War" by Mr Bob Dylan, and no truer words were spoken in our time.
