Put some more lipstick on that pig !
Perhaps we can make it pretty enough to fool the people once again? Put on a little more lipstick and tell the people we are seeing some progress in Iraq. Put on a little more lipstick and tell people the economy is doing really great, even as they pay $3.00 per gallon for gas. Put on a little more lipstick and tell the people how democracy is spreading throughout the Middle East. Put on a little more lipstick and tell people what a strong leader George W Bush is - as everything he touches turns to crap...

3. CNN is doing a piece on the dire situation in Iraq right now
After a month of relief, complements of Lebanon and Jon Benet, the story keeps coming back to bite the neos in the ass.

I don't think they even try the "democracy on the march" crap anymore. Distraction is the only recourse left to cover up the quagmire.

4. Too bad. That pig is so ugly.
They should have used the alternative approach, known as "the pig in the poke". Then they could have shown us the poke and simply described how pretty the pig was that was inside. Now it's too late.

6. Bush actually said this once:
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 01:55 PM by Marr
"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and those are the ones you need to concentrate on."

I've had Bush supporters shrug that quote off many times, saying "it was only a joke". But what sort of president makes a joke like that? What sort of man would find that funny? Like his other famous "joke", saying things would be easier if he were a dictator, the humor is based on candor; the flat stating of an uncomfortable fact.

9. Here's an attribution. There are many
Shortly after his inauguration, Bush joked to a crowd of Washington insiders: "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and those are the ones you need to concentrate on." It would be naive to assume that all of Bush's false statements are accidents or oversights. White House senior policy adviser Karl Rove explained to Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward how the war on terrorism would be judged by the American public: "Everything will be measured by results. The victor is always right. History ascribes to the victor qualities that may or may not actually have been there. And similarly to the defeated."

11. OK, it was a Gridiron Club joke
I think he meant Leo, not Robert, in his attribution.

And, to dispel any doubts that this could affect his leadership, he said he was following advice given to him by Democrat Robert Strauss: "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and those are the ones you need to concentrate on."

Lipstick won't turn a pig into Miss America or Miss Universe.

13. The only way you'd ever get enough lipstick for this pig...
is to buy it in gallon cans and apply it with a brick trowel.
