Saline Breast Implants
If saline solution is banned (contact lenses) shouldn't women with saline breast implants be banned? Would that require a note from their doctor saying they do not have saline in their breasts?

2. How could having
saline in your breast implants be considered a risk? Is a terrorist going to operate in the bathroom of the airplane to take them out?

4. Not funny to many, many breast cancer survivors
nor to their families and friends.

6. My sister is a breast cancer survivor
This was the joke she told me. She was ready to strip during her last airplane security check.

11. Glad she is doing well
But sadly, some readers (not all reading DU are on out team ;) ) will probably take it seriously that there is some sort of risk with implants and security.

I'd hate for someone to miss a trip due to being embarassed/intimidated with mis-information. We know there is plenty out there,

7. Yes, funny...9 year survivor with a saline implant...
It may be a fake mammary gland, but it fills out my bra!

Seriously - thanks for the concern and sensitivity, but after surviving a mastectomy, reconstruction, and chemo, I can take a joke easy. Breast cancer is hard, and it's not funny, but a sense of humor is what got me through the whole damn mess. But I appreciate that you care, havocmom - thanks!

10. The ease with which one takes the humor can vary
greatly, and I notice often it depends on where one is in the regime.

All for humor as a help to heal. Not crazy about insensitive remarks that get shaken off as 'just kidding' by some folks when they get called on it.

Glad you are doing well. Some can be at tender stages is all. Adding to the burden by making light of something perhaps not well thought out isn't cool. The OP probably didn't mean harm, but possibly also just didn't think about the fact that it can be a very personal issue.

9. No offense taken...
from this BC survivor. I don't have implants, but I have a couple prosthetic breasts. I'm seriously thinking
about flying, just so I can flop them out onto whatever screening device they are now using.

Me at the airport ----->
