Senator Conrad Burns and 'that little Guatemalan man'

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. Conrad Burns (news, bio, voting record), whose re-election campaign is pressing for tighter immigration controls, referred to his house painter as "a nice little Guatemalan man" and suggested that worker as well as employees of a roofing company he hired might be in the country illegally.

"The other day, the little fella who does our maintenance work around the house, he's from Guatemala, and I said, 'Could I see your green card?'" Burns said at a June meeting recorded by Democrats. "And Hugo says, 'No.' I said, 'Oh, gosh.'"

Burns said he was on the phone with his contractor when he saw an interview with an illegal immigrant on television. The immigrant said he was a roofer and was headed north.

"So I told my roofer, you better go out and get your help," Burns said. "Or you won't get my house roofed."

4. Because the people who paid for the ad have it set to run on message

boards when certain words or phrases are used. Go through different threads and you can see the patterns of ads.

5. The way ads work here...

...is that they are fed in from Google. The admins can tell you more, but basically their ability to filter them is limited. This was started only a couple months ago, and they are still learning to tweak things to prevent undesirable ads from showing up.

If you don't want to see the ads, turn them off -- anyone with a star can do so.

6. You know, when I heard about Burn's odd insults to the wildfire fighters,

I thought he was acting like an early-to-mid-stage Alzheimers guy I know. When I saw that video of Burns falling asleep at the hearing, I think so even more. He's lost it.
