Ex-president Carter's son running for Senate

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Jack Carter, the son of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, said on Friday that he was running to become a U.S. senator from Nevada and would make a formal announcement next month.

"I'm disturbed by the Bush administration policies," Carter told Reuters in explaining his decision to enter politics at age 58. "I don't like the partisan bickering."

Still bearing his family's trademark Georgia accent, Carter said he moved to Nevada a little more than three years ago.

...

Carter hopes to unseat Nevada's junior senator John Ensign, a Republican. The state's senior senator, Democrat Harry Reid, is the Senate minority leader.

:woohoo: He could hunt spotted owls for sport (ok, not really) and I'd still give him a free pass just because of his mom and dad. Love them.....

John William (Jack) Carter, (born July 3, 1947), is the eldest child of former President Jimmy Carter.

Carter was born at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. Raised in Plains, Georgia, he spent summers working at his father's peanut farm warehouse, where his first salary was 10 cents per hour. Carter struggled when he first entered college in 1965, bouncing around between Georgia Tech, Emory, and Georgia Southwestern State University before enlisting in the United States Navy in April 1968 at the suggestion of his father. Carter served in the Vietnam War, on a salvage ship. After an honorable discharge, Carter returned to Georgia Tech, earning a degree in nuclear physics. Following graduation, he immediately entered law school at the University of Georgia, graduating in 1975.

Carter married Elizabeth Carter on May 15, 1992, and they have since lived in Bermuda and Chicago before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2003, where he formed the investment consultant firm Global Carter.

On October 5, 2005, it was reported that he was planning on running for United States Senate as a Democrat against incumbent Republican Senator John Ensign of Nevada in the 2006 election. <1>

14. Oh, I don't think they'll try swiftboating Jack.
He hasn't run for office before or held office and has no record. His Vietnam service is hard to swiftboat. Just my opinion.
Plus, I think they may think twicebefore crossing Jimmy and Rosalyn. I'm just sayin'. ;)

Attended Tech and UGA!

13. OK. You had me getting riled up with your post until I read the rest!
 Mr. CB & I are proud Dawgs. My boss is a GA Tech grad! All of us here in Athens, GA love the good natured UGA-GA Tech rivalry!

One of my student interns is a Tech student and her sister is a UGA grad. They have the "House Divided" bumper stickers on their cars! Not to mention that they and their parents all recently became US citizens after escaping the horrors of war torn Bosnia back in the mid1990s. Their mom is Catholic and their dad is Muslim. They came to Georgia by way of Germany. They all speak fluent Serbo-Croation, German and English, work harder and make better grades than most native born GA students and both got the HOPE scholarship to attend univeristy here! Go Dawgs and Go Yellow Jackets! ;)

God bless Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, two of the BEST human beings on the planet! :)

7. This is exquisite news.
I've recommended this. This guy needs all our support.

The Repugs may well have a lock on the Executive branch right now. And they are causing some powerful trouble in the Judiciary. But come November, the Legislative branch is going to be ours, all ours. Then, they can scream and yell and tell their lies and it won't make any difference. The legislature has the power of the purse strings. It has the power of hearings. It holds the power of holding the other two branches accountable.

That's how we take back the country and pull it back from the brink. If only November isn't too late.

Pray for peace.

9. Great news...now about John Ensign....
...he's not one of those "likable" 'pugs is he? Sometimes it's hard to unseat a popular incumbent.

12. It would be great to see John Ensign out, and it would be excellent
seeing someone who would be completely conscientious replacing him.
