The only thing that makes bush's polls bounce is terror.

Some are now referrring to bush's "terror bounce", a slight uptick in his popularity numbers, apparently from the thwarted British airways terror attack. His numbers went from the low thirties to the high thirties, big deal.

So there the ape is, relying and praying for more terror from the skies, or the subways, or anywhere, to make his numbers rise. Pretty disgusting situation when the only thing that you can fall back on is terror and fear and terror.

We're down in the polls? Create more terror news!

Only republicans can keep the bad Islamozombies away from our daughters, only republicans can defeat our enemies, Democratic leaders will only get us all killed.

This seems to be the central republican platform and theme, we are at war with terror, and if Dems are in the majority after November, we'll all soon be speaking Arabic and converting to Islam by the millions.

They are painting our side as waving the white flag of surrender in Iraq and the middle east, calling us cowards, insulting and politicizing our darkest fears. They created a war, now they want to drag it out forever, and call anyone who opposes it traitors.

This shit is wearing awfully thin.

2. A few questions...
That was primarily a British investigation, wasn't it? The US helped a little.

Didn't the US let the cat out of the bag earlier than what the Brits wanted?

It appears bush was desperate for some good news and getting a little bounce with terra news was the only way.

3. Scotland Yard, not Homeland Security.
Yes, bush has been claiming credit for thwarting that plot since day one.

The hoax is wearing very thin.

4. What worries me...
...is that Chimpy's strategy of using real or imagined terror to boost his ratings is somewhat like drug addiction: It takes more and more each time to get the same result. Considering the tiny blip that even the biggest terror scares currently produce, what will it take for the neocons to win the next Presidential election? Armageddon?

6. And the only people who are terrorized are those who actually
in the path of the terror or those delusional paranoids--brave, blustering on the outside and too willing to take advantage of others and subject them to horrible outrages in the name of the the paranoiacs' own fears.

For most of us, the important thing about fear is that it doesn't last. Left to itself, fear turns to anger or derision and, in order to be useful, must be constantly stoked and reinforced, with constantly escalating threats.

Thankfully, those "terror bounces" are of significantly diminishing returns. The constant terror of the cold war became so much a mere part of the background roar that most people had no real concept of how it began or what was being done to keep it as a cudgel over the population and a useful tool for pragmatic world policy.

10. bush and terror are forever intertwined
That will be the one word most associated with bush, the one word he repeated more than any other in the speeches that are written for him.

9. It has worked for them since 2001
9/11 changed everything was the first terror cry to get them popularity.
It helped them start a war with lies, it helped them to steal couple of elections. We must make sure it does not work this time around.

11. my "fear" about terror alerts
Cry "WOLF" enough times and people do not pay attention.

We've heard the bushies cry "TERROR" many many times and the media joins in with "specials" (I point to the recent TERROR WEEK on CNN as an example)

It's obvious when the bushies (or by extension GOPers) are in trouble with the polls - especially in an election year - there is an upsurge in the number and "intensity" of terror alerts.

People have grown a bit numb to it. Terror Terror Terror no longer gets the public rushing to a Home Depot to stock up on plastic sheeting and duct tape.

More to the point - TERROR TERROR TERROR doesn't have the same kick for the bush/GOPer polls.

My "fear" is if just an alert no longer has the desired effect to boost bush/GOPer numbers - how long will it be before the alert turns into a very real attack.

To allow an attack on US soil will blow the "We're safer now...." talking point out of the water. However, a terror attack close to home may have the desired effect.

I've predicted this recently, and will repeat it here. If the GOPers continue to lag in the polls, and continue to be in danger of losing control of Congress - we will have a terror attack by the 2nd-3rd week in October.

Why 2nd-3rd week? Close enough to the elections for GOPers to capitalize on the "terror" and not enough time for the Democratic candidates to adequately respond.
