War in Iran? Nah, no way. Don't be silly. Not gonna happen. No way. |
|
I've been saying for several years, and so have many others, that Iran is next, in one form or another, the U.S. will soon engage the nation militarily and topple it's government. Some will dismiss this notion as unrealistic and offer alternative scenarios.
I still predict that Iran is next in line, and possibly Syria, because of all the deja vu going on, we've seen all this go down before, quite recently.
It may not go down exactly like Iraq did, but I see it as the next domino in the PNAC plan.
Of course, I could well be totally wrong.

1. There's not enough oil left in Syria |
|
If we can get the political will together to invade Iran it will happen. I see these next elections as a vote on whether we will invade Iran or not. If repubs win with "terra terra" November 7, I think they will say, "what the hell, they're still buying this crap" and do something about Iran, like invade the oil fields.

11. but Syria stands between |

Iran/Iraq and Israel for an oil pipeline to the Mediterranean sea...
Iraq already has a pipeline into Syria, wouldn't take much to extend that to an Israeli port. Would save money on transporting oil...

2. I don't really see how it's possible |
|
China and Russia are too heavily invested in Iran and its oil. They won't sit idly by and watch us go in. It would then be GAME OVER for any continued PNAC power grab.
Also, we are spread way too thin militarily as it is, and in order to continue the Middle Eastern March for Democracy, there will HAVE to be a draft. Then, once again, it's GAME OVER.
Bush will continue to make lots of threats to make us look tough and to continue to keep the American people scared, but I'm not losing any sleep over us actually going into Iran. It's pretty clear the Iranians aren't, either.

4. How old are you Frank? |
|
Just curious, they drafted the shit right out of us. You want police state watch what happens when they want your kids to feed the military machine, they will take them unless we really are prepared for some serious, serious confrontation. The old timers understand what I am talking about here. You think they are talking treason now? Tell them they can't take your child and force them to serve, you both will be in prison, ask Muhammad Ali.

7. I'm old enough to remember that the protests against Vietnam |
|
were largely motivated by universal conscription. Bush and Cheney would end up with 2500+ protests everyday all over the country if they begin the draft. They know it.
They'd swell oppostion voters and send their party back to the dark decades of minority obstructionism.
There isn't going to be a draft unless they do something really stupid (which obviously can't be ruled out) and are seriously looking at losing their empire.

9. This will be a war to control to the world's resources... |
|
particularly the oil, which will quickly dwindle in supply at it's current rate of consumption. When you have a finite amount of something that everybody desperately needs, the sky is the limit in terms of what you will be able to sell that product for.
The war is coming. Where it starts, who starts it, and who is on which side will be debatable, but you can bet that if the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld cabal believe that it will make them more rich and more powerful they will stop at nothing to make it happen. They are not loyal to the Republican Party or anyone else for that matter. They only care about themselves and their close circle of buddies who got them to where they are.

10. I'm old enough to remember VN, and as soon as Biff and Kiki... |
|
are faced with the prospect of sending Biff and Kiki Junior to Iraq to get their asses shot off (or with the prospect of having their OWN asses shot off), opposition to this war will go from 60% to 90% overnight.
Right now, America seems to be content with just seeing the poor volunteers going, as long as the rest of us can sit at home and watch American Idol.
There's a real good reason there's not a draft right now. BushCo knows the Iraq-and-terror-based robbing of the United States Treasury is over as soon as they implement one.

6. The bu$h regime does not care if Russia and China are invested |
|
This is the plan and come hell or high water, bu$h will do everything possible to make it happen. If it requires another terror attack on US soil, then they will see that one happens just so they can make up more bull shit to justify another illegal war. The bu$h regime is full of monsters.

3. Bush is dumb enough, Cheney is imperial enough, but the military |
|
leaders aren't close to being drunk enough on victory to take on what will be the bridge too far.
Attacking any nation means being ready to prevent, deflect, or willingly absorb expected retaliatory strikes.
Concern that the Iranians are likely to launch strikes at US force concentrations in Iraq, Kuwait and Dubai, and cripple shipping out of the Persian Gulf is more sobering than a cold shower.

another 'catastrophic success' for PNAC. The Israeils don't need to make enemies, the neocons are more than happy to provide them.

... a conflict with Iran would be disastrous. I think that the average American hasn't the slightest idea that Iran would be 10 times (not exaggerating here folks) the enemy Iraq ever was. Basically, without nuking them into sand, the US would never actually defeat Iran, that is my belief and I think our military leaders may well think something similar. It would be a long, protracted war of attrition, and Iran is well financed and well populated with cannon fodder.
But when you look at how utterly stupid it was to get ourselves into this absolutely unwinnable situation in Iraq, you realize that you can't rule anything out. That's the thing when you have leaders with no knuckles in the fight. It's no skin off their asses, just a dice roll in a cosmic comi-tragedy.
